Last week, Maxville hosted a Glengarry Highlanders midget 'A' girls hockey game as part of provincial playdowns. An image gallery can be seen here, and the story is in this week's issue of The News.
The Maxville-based Roadrunners senior 'A' women's hockey team concluded its NCWHL regular season last weekend on home ice, with a 1-1 tie to the first place Ottawa Storm.
Tammy MacSweyn, of the Roadrunners, says her team's goaltender, "Melissa Holterman, stood on her head to let us get out of there with the tie." Jenn Ware had the lone goal, assisted by Julie Curtis.
Playoff action is up next, with the Roadrunners getting home games March 3 at 6:30 p.m. versus the Ottawa Storm and March 17 against Smiths Falls, also at 6:30 p.m. Road playoff games are booked for March 21 at the Akwesasne Wild and March 22 at the Goulbourn Rockets.

The annual Heartbreakers girls hockey tournament, hosted by the Glengarry Girls Hockey Association, continues for its second day of action, on rinks in Maxville and Alexandria.
Among the championship match-ups already determined, Glengarry will take on Cornwall Blue in the novice house league final, at noon, at the Palace.
The atom 'B' final, also to be played in Alexandria, will feature Glengarry versus Clarence-Rockland, at 1 p.m.
As of this posting, teams for the other finals had yet to be confirmed. All will be played at the Glengarry Sports Palace: peewee 'C' at 5 p.m., bantam house league at 6 p.m., midget house league at 7 p.m., and midget 'B' at 8 p.m.
The annual Glengarry Highlanders Heartbreaker girls hockey tournament takes over rinks in Alexandria and Maxville this weekend. Games begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, at both facilities, continuing through the day to 10 p.m. The action resumes Sunday at 8 a.m., with division finals in the afternoon.
Groups include midget 'B', midget house, peewee 'C', bantam house, atom 'B', and novice house.

The 36th annual AJK Highland Travellers men’s recreational hockey tournament is set to hit the Maxville ice on Jan. 26, in support of the fight against cancer.
The day-long action will see teams play a minimum of three games each, and supporters are welcome to attend to cheer on the skaters.

Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry Ontario Provincial Police officers are investigating multiple reports of theft of gas at the Highland Esso, located on County Road 20 at Highway 417 in North Glengarry Township. The first incident dates back to January 2017and have continued to December 2018.
The thief will pull up to the furthest pump from the store during a busy time, exit the vehicle and fuel up without ever looking up towards the cameras. The vehicle will then drive past the Tim Hortons drive-thru, around the back of the store and exit through the North entrance.
The suspect is 5 foot 6 inches to 5 foot 7 inches tall, wears a hoodie with a ball cap and drives a red Hyundai Veloster.

The Cornwall Prowlers senior 'A' hockey team will hit the ice twice this weekend in exhibition LHSAO action. Friday, Sept. 28 will see the squad playing in Maxville, at 8:30 p.m., versus Vaudreuil-Dorion. The same two teams will then go at it Sunday, Sept. 30, at 7:30 p.m., at Cornwall's multi-sport complex.
Last Sunday, the first-year team held a Blue-versus-White intra-squad contest, where Blue prevailed in overtime on a beautiful low blocker-side shot from Stevie Adams.
Blue team goals were scored by Adams (2), Brandon Gilmour (2), and Brian Landry. White team goals came from Dominic Leveille, Jonathan Labelle, Jesse Fontaine, and Pierre Luc Sabourin.
The puck drops on regular-season play Oct. 6 in Vaudreuil-Dorion.
