80 cows killed in early morning fire

Ontario Fire Marshal investigators are trying to determine the cause of an early morning Tuesday fire that claimed the lives of 80 cows and caused damages ranging from $3 million to $4 million at the Jack family farm near Maxville. Nobody was injured in the blaze that began at 2:30 a.m. at the farm located on Cumming Road in North Stormont. Flames could be seen from Highway 138 as the fire quickly engulfed the milk barn and adjoining buildings.

Minor playoffs in the GSL are underway, Maxville wins U19 girls title

On Monday evening, Team Maxville claimed the U19 girls championship, beating Greenfield.

Playoff action in other divisions continues nightly through the next two weeks.

Kelly Prescott in Maxville

Kelly Prescott will perform on September 29 at 7:30 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Maxville as part of the Festival of Small Halls.

The singer-songwriter just wrapped her first tour across the U.S. with Kyle Cook of Matchbox Twenty.

She has released a new single, "Leavin' Her," to follow up her second solo album, 2016’s acclaimed Hillbilly Jewels.

Glengarry Sports Hall of Fame to mark 40 years of honouring county athletes

In August, the Glengarry Sports Hall of Fame will celebrate 40 years of recognizing the county's athletes and teams. This week's edition of The Glengarry News features the first of five biographies of this year's inductees.

Tickets for the Aug. 15 dinner and ceremony at the Glengarry Sports Palace in Alexandria go on sale this weekend, available from all board members, as well as from Auld Kirktown, Loiselle Sports Plus, and the Hall in Maxville. Cost is $40. After Aug. 9, the cost will be $50.
