Junior A Colts snap losing skid with Thursday night come-from behind win

Tristan Poissant pounced on a loose puck in the Kemptville zone and scored with 3 seconds left in overtime to give the Colts a 6-5 win on home ice Thursday night.

First star Konnor MacCormick paced the Colts offence with a pair of goals and an assist, including the tying tally, midway through the third period.

David Poirier and Dylan Massie each had a goal and an assist, as the Colts record improved to 1-5-0-0. Henry Bishop also scored in his Colts debut.

The Colts outshot the 73’s 50-35, with Michael Carr earning the victory in goal. Hardest Working Player honours went to Jack Collins.

The Colts have a week off before their next game on Thursday, September 20, versus the Navan Grads. Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Cornwall and District will be welcomed to the game, which is slated for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop, at the Ed Lumley Arena (Cornwall Civic Complex).

Cornwall Colts open CCHL hockey season 0-5

It's been a tough start to the junior 'A' hockey season for the Cornwall Colts, who saw their record fall to 0-5 on Sept. 9, with a 3-1 loss to Nepean. The defeat came three days after the team's home opener, which went into the books as a 1-0 loss to Brockville.

Several county boys are members of the Colts this season, including defencemen David Poirier and Ben Dirven, along with forwards Liam MacDonald, Jeremy Quesnel, and Ethan Mulhearn.

The squad will play it's next two matches on home ice, starting Sept. 13, when Kemptville will visit the Cornwall Civic Complex. A week later, Navan will provide the opposition. Both are 7:30 p.m. starts.

Video: Poirier scores for Canada in Russia

Two hockey players from the county are competing with a CCHL all-star team, the Ottawa Capitals, at an international club tournament in Russia.

One of them is Green Valley's David Poirier, who is featured in the video embedded below, while the other is Ben Dirven. Both are defenceman who play their league games with the Cornwall Colts. The Caps went on to win this game 6-3 over a squad from Finland. Poirier notched a goal, and Dirven picked up an assist in the contest. The win improved the squad's record to 1-1, with game three booked for Thursday versus a Chinese club.

Junior A, midget AAA camps and pre-season hockey begin this week

Hockey fans looking to get an early look at the region's top talent might like to check out exhibition action in the junior 'A' and HEO midget 'AAA' leagues.

The Cornwall Colts of the CCHL will hold inter-squad "blue-white" games on Thursday, Aug. 23, at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., at the Civic Complex. The club is also booked to play against the Hawkesbury Hawks on Monday, Aug. 27 at 3:30 p.m., in St. Isidore, and then Tuesday, Aug. 28, at 8 p.m, in Hawkesbury.

The midget-level Colts have an exhibition contest with the Hawks booked for Saturday, Aug. 25, at 8 p.m., in Casselman. These games teams are also scheduled to battle on Tuesday, Aug. 28, at 6 p.m., in Hawkesbury.

Junior A Colts make pre-season roster move

The Cornwall Colts of the CCHL have traded for 18-year-old defenceman Evan Huntley, sending a player development fee in return to the Navan Grads.

The Long Sault native is listed at 6 ft. 1 in., 190 lb. He played nine games with the Grads last season and 47 contests with the Char-Lan Rebels junior 'B' team.

"We’re looking to be deeper with talent on defence, and Evan fits the bill," says Colts head coach Ian MacInnis.

The Cornwall Colts training camp is scheduled to begin Monday, August 20, at the Ed Lumley Arena, in Cornwall Civic Complex.

Regular-season play begins at the league-wide showcase, in Kanata, on Saturday, September 1.

Cornwall's home opener is slated for Thursday, September 6, at 7:30 p.m.

Game 7 between junior A Colts and Hawks goes tonight in Hawkesbury

Tonight, the season will come to an end for one junior 'A' hockey team, while the other moves on to the second round of CCHL playoffs. Game seven for the Cornwall Colts and Hawkesbury Hawks will take place at the Robert Hartley Complex, starting at 7:30 p.m.

The Colts have twice staved off elimination, having won the last two games to even the series.

On Sunday, it was a 4-3 overtime triumph, as Cameron Hebert’s second goal of the game was the winner. Cornwall's Noah Williams and Alex Wilkins also scored. For the Hawks, Kieran Craig (of Alexandria), Chris Smith, and Nicolas Guillemette were the marksmen. Craig also picked up an assist.

The Hawks outshot the Colts 49-41, with Liam Lascelle making 47 saves for the victory. 

Three stars were first Cameron Hebert (COR), second Liam Lascelle (COR), and third Kieran Craig (HAW).

Last Friday, it took double overtime for Cornwall to prevail, as the Colts won in Hawkesbury, 3-2. 

Amongst the county crew in the game, Craig scored for Hawkesbury, and Ethan Mulhearn found the net for Cornwall. Simon Besner picked up an assist for the Hawks, and David A. Poirier chalked one up for the Colts. 

Colts win in double OT to extend CCHL playoff series with Hawks

Last night in Hawkesbury, Josh Barnes of the Cornwall Colts scored 9:20 into the second overtime period to give his team a 3-2 victory over the Hawks.

The win staved off elimination for the Colts, who will again face a do-or-die situation in game six at the Cornwall Civic Complex, on Sunday, March 25, starting at 7 p.m. The Hawks, with a win, will advance to the next round of CCHL playoffs, currently leading the series three games to two.

The marathon in Hawkesbury saw the county's own Ethan Mulhearn open the scoring for Cornwall 4:20 into the contest, before Kieran Craig, who hails from Alexandria and plays for the Hawks, scored to tie nine minutes later. North Lancaster native Simon Besner set up Colin Stevens for Hawkesbury's go-ahead tally later in the frame.

After a scoreless second stanza, county boy David A. Poirier assisted Cameron Hebert's equalizer for Cornwall, at the 15:03 mark of the third.

Should the Colts prevail on Sunday night, the series will go to a game seven back in Hawkesbury on Tuesday.

Junior A Colts face do-or-die tonight in Hawkesbury

The CCHL (junior 'A') hockey season could come to an end tonight in Hawkesbury for the Cornwall Colts, as the Hawks hold a 3-1 lead in games, in the opening-round playoff series.

Last night, in Cornwall, the Hawks grabbed a commanding lead in the series, with a 3-1 victory in game four.

All four goals were scored in the third period, with J.D. Pogue notching the lone Colts marker. That goal tied the game 1-1, but Hawkesbury reclaimed the lead the for good only 49 seconds later, before sealing the victory with an empty-net goal in the final minute of play.

Hawks tallies came from Kari Belac (2) and Alex Beaudin-Tougas.

The county's Ethan Mulhearn picked up an assist on the Cornwall goal.

Game five is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start at the Robert Hartley Sports Complex, in Hawkesbury.

If Cornwall wins to extend the series, the sixth match will go at the civic complex on Sunday evening, starting at 7 p.m.

Junior A Hawks seize lead in playoff series with Colts

On Monday night in Hawkesbury, a double-overtime game same the Hawks take a two-games-to-one lead in their opening-round CCHL playoff series with the Cornwall Colts.
