The senior boys soccer team from Glengarry DHS tangled with Louis Riel today in the finale at an indoor soccer tournament, held in Cornwall. We will have coverage and photos in next week's edition of The Glengarry News.

High school senior boys soccer tournament set for Friday in Cornwall

Cornwall's multi-sport complex will host a pre-season high school senior boys soccer tournament on Friday. Amongst the teams involved are the squads from Glengarry DHS and Char-Lan DHS. Others are St. Joseph's are la Citadelle. 

9 a.m.: SJCSS vs. ESLC
10 a.m.: GDHS vs. CLDHS
11 a.m.: SJCSS vs. GDHS
noon: CLDHS vs. ESLC
1 p.m.: SJCSS vs. CLDHS
2 p.m.: GDHS vs. ESLC
3 p.m.: final 1st vs. 2nd

The SDGAA league season is scheduled to kick off next Wednesday.

Medals up for grabs this afternoon at broomball nationals in Cornwall

The Canadian broomball championships conclude this afternoon in Cornwall, with a trio of gold-medal games.

First up, at 2 p.m., Broom-Shak Becancour (the 2018 winner) will take on the Hillbillies in the mixed division championship match.

At 3:10 p.m., the elite ladies class takes over the ice, as the defending champion Eastern Rebels tangle with the Vipers.

That will be followed at 4:20 p.m. by the elite men's final, where Ottawa Nationals (winners last year) battle the Patriotes.

All the action takes place on rink one, at Cornwall's multi-sport complex.

Broomball nationals taking place this week in Cornwall

The senior and mixed Canadian broomball championships are taking place this week at Cornwall's multi-sport complex, with three divisions – elite ladies, elite men's, and mixed – on the ice.

Round-robin action continues through Friday morning, followed by playoffs that continue into Saturday.

There are local connections to a number of teams, including the national defending champion Eastern Rebels (elite ladies division), who are currently 3-0 at the tournament, heading into game four set for a 4:10 p.m. start.

Sunday evening senior A hockey featuring the Cornwall Prowlers

A special exhibition senior 'A' hockey game will be played this evening in Cornwall, as the Cornwall Prowlers host the Montreal-based Cedars.

Who are the Cedars, you ask? It's a newly formed group of hockey players playing under the banner of the Lebanese Ice Hockey Federation.

Game time at Cornwall's multi-sport complex is set for 7:20 p.m., and at least two Glengarrians (Jesse Fontaine and Pierre Luc Sabourin) are expected to be included on the Cornwall roster.

Prowlers head into game three with playoff series tied 1-1

The Cornwall senior 'A' Prowlers split their first two semifinal series games with the Mont Laurier Montagnards, dropping the opener on the road 6-4, before rebounding 6-5 on home ice.

The third match is set for March 9 in Mont Laurier, with game four on Sunday, March 10, at 4 p.m., at Cornwall's multi-sport complex. The series is a best-of-five.

Of the county players on the roster, Maxville's Adam Wensink scored twice in the first two games and added an assist, while Martintown's Jesse Fontaine notched one marker. The team also includes Pierre-Luc Sabourin, a defenceman from Alexandria.

Bishop Cup high school hockey rivalry game Feb. 27 in Cornwall

The annual Bishop Cup Catholic high school hockey rivalry game between Holy Trinity and St. Joseph's is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the Cornwall Civic Complex, starting at 6:30 p.m. 

This is a charity contest where supporters of the Falcons and Panthers are encouraged to come out in school colours, ready to cheer.

LHSAO Cornwall Prowlers set for weekend playoffs

The senior 'A' Cornwall Prowlers hockey team will skate in LHSAO playoffs, as the fifth seed, in a best-of-three wildcard series with the Pontiac Comets.

Game one is scheduled for Fort Coulonge, Quebec, on Feb. 22, at 8:30 p.m.

The Prowlers get the second game, to be played at Cornwall's multi-sport complex, on Feb. 23, at 8 p.m.

Should it be needed, a third match will go Sunday in Fort Coulonge, at 5 p.m.

The teams actually were even in the standings, but the Comets got fourth place based on the league's tie-breaking rules.
