Crusaders successfully defend high school hockey title

Char-Lan's boys hockey team became the two-time SD&G champions today, clipping North Dundas in a thrilling championship match played on the ice in Long Sault.

The Crusaders got the winning tally with under a minute remaining in the third period when Eric Ming fired a sweet pass over to Steve Rose for the finish as the pair rushed onto the attack against just one defender.

Char-Lan won the game 3-2, taking the SD&G crown in what was a tightly contested league this season.  The Crusaders got past Holy Trinity 4-2 in an earlier semifinal match with the Falcons going on to blank their Catholic rival, St. Joseph's, in the consolation final, 4-0. Top Char-Lan point-getter on the day was Ramsey Wheeler, while both goalies — Jacob Fourney and Robbie Chapmen — were rock solid between the pipes, seeing action in the semi and final respectively.

The boys have the weekend to celebrate before they look towards EOSSAA which will be played in Williamstown on Tuesday, March 10.
