Hawks roll over Nepean in CCHL action
The Hawkesbury Hawks were firing on all cylinders last night, facing off with the Nepean Raiders. When the final buzzer sounded, the Hawks had a 4-1 win.
Chris Smith was all over the ice for Hawkesbury, as he tallied two goals and one assist. Smith scored the first of his two goals 7:56 into the second period to make the score 2-0. Charles Levesque picked up the assist. Smith's next tally made the score 4-1, with 4:02 left in the third period. Ryan Jackson provided the assist.
The Hawks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Nepean power plays. Hawkesbury forced Nepean goalie Francis Marotte to work between the pipes, firing 35 shots at him. Meanwhile, the Raiders iced an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Hawks to score on any of their four power plays.
Hawkesbury additionally got points from Levesque, who had one goal and one assist. Jonathan Cyr also scored for Hawkesbury. Picking up assists were Joe Smith (2), Adriano Leone, and Julien Denicourt.
The Hawks ended with 13 minutes in penalty time, with four minors and one major. Hawkesbury ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Simon Houle was ejected from the game. Nepean had 11 minutes in penalty time, with three minors and one major. For the Raiders, Derek Varrin was ejected from the game.
