Charity hockey tournament on outdoor Williamstown rink cancelled, but not due to weather

Despite the unseasonably mild December that has prevented the making of ice on the outdoor rink of Williamstown, a charity hockey tournament in support of the Julie MacLachlan Foundation was still going to go ahead, with players instead involved in ball hockey games. However, organizer Allister Macdonell was informed yesterday that the township would not allow access to the park building, as the renovated structure has yet to receive its final inspections and occupancy permit.

As such, Macdonell, with disappointment, informed those who had signed up that this year's event has been called off.

He posted this message on Facebook:

Hi everyone. Unfortunately I have to cancel the tournament this year. The building needs to be inspected and passed before public can go in. Thank you to everyone who put teams in, and I hope we can do it next year!!
