MacLean goes for national baseball championship tonight

Alexandria's Leo MacLean, a pitcher and right fielder for the Cornwall Black Sox Senior Little League baseball team, will have a chance at a Canadian championship tonight when his team squares off against Saint John, New Brunswick.

The Sox went 3-2 through the round-robin portion of the tournament, which wrapped up Tuesday, then spanked the Prairies representative earlier today, 9-3, to earn the berth in the title match.

Meanwhile, Saint John had a tough go in its semi this morning, as the Quebec team forced the game into extra innings, before the New Brunswick side was able to pull off a 5-4 win.

The tournament is taking place in Saint John with strong support from the community cheering the kids on, says Leo's dad, Shaun, adding, the season will be on the line tonight since the winner will advance to the World Series in Bangor, Maine, which begins on Saturday, while the loser goes home.
