CCHL Cornwall Colts to hold Crusaders Night on Feb. 4
Cornwall's junior A hockey club, the Colts, will honour students from Char-Lan District High School on Thursday, Feb. 4, with Crusaders Night. Student tickets, at a cost of just $5, are available from the school office.
The current team includes a number of students, past and present, and has seen many Crusaders move through its ranks over the years.
The game on Feb. 4 is a 7:30pm start and will feature the Colts hosting the Pembroke Lumber Kings.
The Colts will also have some minor hockey Rebels as flag bearers (pre-game) and a novice team playing a scrimmage during the first intermission.
Winchester to be added to Wall of Honour
Former Cornwall Colts captain and current NHL player Jesse Winchester will be added to the Cornwall Colts Wall of Honour at this Thursday’s home game versus the Hawkesbury Hawks.
Winchester spent three seasons with the Colts (2001-2002 to 2003-2004), amassing 184 points in 144 games. The Long Sault native followed up his Colts career with a four-year run at Colgate University, with the Raiders. Winchester played his first NHL game at the end of the 2007-08 season with the Ottawa Senators. That began an eight-year career with the Senators, Florida Panthers, and Colorado Avalanche, where he has scored 20 goals, 50 assists, and 70 points in 285 NHL games.
Winchester is a born leader; he was named captain for the Colts and the Raiders in his final season with each team.
Winchester joins the inaugural six former Colts on the Wall of Honour: Stephane Marleau, Hugh Boisvert, Eric Meloche, Jeff Legue, Jacob Laliberte, and Michael Pontarelli.
The Colts take a 24-22-2-1 record into the game with the Hawks and are looking to solidify their CCHL playoff position. Game time is 7:30pm at the Ed Lumley Arena (Cornwall Civic Complex).
