MacDougall leads Colts to grounding of Hawks on Jesse Winchester night
Lawson MacDougall had a three-point night to lead the Colts to a 6-1 victory over the Hawkesbury Hawks on a night where former Colts star Jesse Winchester was placed on the Wall of Honour.
MacDougall’s two goals (his 14 and 15th of the season) and an assist included a rare awarded goal as he was hauled down while on a breakaway with the net empty with less than a minute to play in third period.
Keegan Mulhearn (with his 12th of the season), Matthew Morin (12th), Dean Derouchie (7th), and Brennan Markell (12th) also scored for the Colts. Lawson MacDonald added two assists, as the Colts improved to 25-22-2-1 for 53 points and sole possession of eighth place in the CCHL standings. Brett Nichol made 31 saves to earn the win in goal.
Three Stars were First Star Brett Nichol (COR), Second Star Matthew Morin (COR), and Third Star Damien Charette (HAW).
Cornwall's Hardest Working Player of the Game was Lawson MacDougall.
The Colts' next game is against Nepean on Saturday. The game is part of the CCHL Showcase event in Smiths Falls. Puck drops at 6:15pm at the Smiths Falls Arena.
Cornwall returns home next week against the Pembroke Lumber Kings in a battle for eighth place. Game time is 7:30pm as the Colts welcome the Char-Lan District High School staff and students to the game along with members of Char-Lan Minor Hockey.
Prior to last night's game, the Colts enshrined Jesse Winchester on the Wall of Honour. Winchester, a eight-year NHL veteran, played for the Colts from 2001-2004.
