Food Freedom Day
This may surprise anyone who has gone to a grocery store lately, but, we marked Food Freedom Day February 9. This is the calendar date when the average Canadian has earned enough income to pay his or her individual grocery bill for the whole year, according to the Canadian Federation of Agriculture.
Canadians spend only about ten cents of every dollar on food, compared to 25 cents in Mexico and 31 cents in Russia.
Food accounts for 9.3 per cent of consumers' spending in Canada, and 6.5 per cent in the United States.
