The Cornwall Colts junior 'A' hockey club recently recognized a group of international volunteers. Seen below, from left, are Maggie Ma (China), Anna Vallvé (Spain), Grace Zhu (China), Laura Ju (China), and Cornwall Colts mascot Slapshot.
The four students signed up as volunteers during their three-month visit to Cornwall. The students attend CCVS high school in Cornwall.
"It's good to see international students taking an interest in hockey," said Colts owner Ian MacInnis. "They’re learning the game and becoming Colts fans at the same time."
The students can be seen at the Ed Lumley Arena every Thursday night during Colts games for the next couple of months.
On the ice, the Colts dropped a 4-2 decision to the CCHL Leading Carleton Place Canadians at Ed Lumley Arena. Cornwall fired 37 shots at Canadians goalie Connor Hughes but couldn’t score enough, as the Colts’ record dropped to 7-5-0-1.
JD Pogue (5) and Konnor MacCormick (3) scored for the Colts. Liam Lascelle suffered the loss. He made 26 saves.
The Canadians' CCHL-leading record improves to 11-3.
The Colts will be back in action tonight in Gloucester, against the Rangers. Game time at the Earl Armstrong Arena is 7:30pm.
The Colts return home to the Ed Lumley Arena next Thursday, Oct. 13, to host the Gloucester Rangers. Game time is 7:30pm.
