For the second time in as many games, a county boy scored the game-winning tally for the Cornwall Colts, who now find themselves leading their opening-round CCHL playoff series two games to none over the Smiths Falls Bears.
On the road Friday night, double overtime was needed to decide matters, with Ethan Mulhearn scoring 7:59 in to end the marathon and hand the Colts a 4-3 victory.
The win came 24 hours after Sebastian Dirven scored in OT on home ice in Cornwall, for the game-one victory. (See this post for more.)
The road match also saw Konnor MacCormick and Brennan Markell each score their second goal in as many games for the Colts, while Nick Lalonde notched his first of the post-season.
William Searle scored twice to pace the Bears. Ryan Gibson also found the net.
The Bears outshot the Colts 44-40. Liam Lascelle made 41 saves to earn the victory in goal.
The two teams return to Cornwall for game 3 in the best-of-seven series Sunday evening. Game time is 7pm at the Ed Lumley Arena (Cornwall Civic Complex).
The fourth match is scheduled for Tuesday at 7:30pm, in Smiths Falls.
