JD Pogue’s first goal of the season with 26 seconds left in the third period brought the Colts to within 1, but it was too little, too late as Carleton Place edged Cornwall 3-2 at the Ed Lumley Arena, on Thursday night.
Konnor MacCormick also scored for the Colts, as their record drops to .500 at 12-12-3-0 (27 points) for seventh place in the CCHL standings.
Carleton Place outshot the Colts 35-24, with Liam Lascelle making 32 saves in the loss.
For their part, the Canadians are an impressive 25-2-0-2 and have earned 52 out of a possible 58 points so far this season to lead the CCHL and rank number 2 in Canada.
The Cornwall Hardest Working Colts player was Liam Lascelle. Three Stars were first Tim Theochraidis (CP), second Liam Lascelle (COR), and third Geoff Kitt (CP).
The Colts are back in action with two road games this weekend. Cornwall plays Hawkesbury tonight (Friday) in Alexandria. Game time at the Glengarry Sports Palace is 8 p.m.
Cornwall then travels to Pembroke to face off against the Lumber Kings Sunday night. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the Pembroke Memorial Centre.
Next home game is booked for Thursday, Nov. 23 against the Brockville Braves. Opening puck drop is booked for 7:30 p.m., at the Ed Lumley Arena (Cornwall Civic Complex).
