Last weekened, the Montreal Canadiens alumni team took on the Alexandria Glens alumni in a fundraiser for our hospital's foundation. A packed Palace took in the action, and we have the story and photos in the Oct. 31 edition of The Glengarry News.

Limited standing room, VIP tickets remain for Canadiens alumni game

With regular seating sold out, limited standing room tickets in the arena and in the hall at the glass (elevator accessible) will be available at the door for Saturday's special hockey game fundraiser in support of the Glengarry Memorial Hospital foundation. These tickets cost $45.

As of this posting, just 10 VIP tickets remain available. These include dinner and dessert before the game, and meet & greet with the Habs alumni after the game. Cost is $85. Dinner starts at 5 p.m.

Game time is set for 7 p.m.

As a little bonus, there will be a tykes mini-game between the first and second periods of the alumni game.

The hockey action features alumni of the Montreal Canadiens taking on a group of Alexandria Glens alumni. For roster details, see this earlier post.

Rosters announced for Oct. 27 Canadiens vs Glens alumni game in Alexandria

In support of the Glengarry Memorial Hospital Foundation, the Glengarry Sports Palace in Alexandria will host a hockey game on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m., featuring alumni of the Montreal Canadiens versus an Alexandria Glens alumni team.

Hawks edge Colts in junior A hockey

The Cornwall Colts of the CCHL earned a point in a 3-2 overtime loss to Hawkesbury, at the Ed Lumley Arena Thursday night.

Tommy Tanner and Tristan Poissant scored for the Colts.

The Hawks outshot the Colts 36-20, with Mike Carr making 33 saves in a losing effort. Cornwall',s record falls to 6-10-3-0 for 15 points and ninth place in the CCHL standings.

The Hardest Working Colts Player of the game was Jacob Shankar. Three stars were first Mike Carr (COR), second Jeremy Cote (HAW), and third Michael Marleau (HAW).

The Colts play tonight, Oct. 26 Pembroke. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the Pembroke Memorial Centre. Next home game in Cornwall is set for Thursday, November 1, to host the Nepean Raiders, at 7:30 p.m.

High school football wraps up today with Gaels, Falcons winners

Regular-season action in the SDGAA high school varsity football league concluded today, when the Glengarry Gaels dispatched the CCVS Raiders, and the Holy Trinity Falcons prevailed over the Tagwi Warriors.

Final standings: St. Joseph's 5-0, Holy Trinity 4-1, la Citadelle 3-2, Glengarry 2-3, CCVS 1-4, Tagwi 0-5.

Playoff semifinals next week will feature the Panthers and Raiders on Thursday, with the Falcons and Patriotes playing on Friday.

Despite finishing in fourth place, the Gaels are barred from post-season play due to a league decision imposed because Glengarry's team is a combined effort of GDHS and VCI.

Prowlers start strong, end up falling in home opener

The Cornwall Prowlers senior 'A' hockey team got off to a bang-up start in their Oct. 20 home opener, taking a 4-0 lead on the Pontiac Comets. However, the visitors weren't about the roll over, battling back to hand Cornwall a 7-5 loss and even its record at 1-1.

Scoring for the Prowlers were Jonathan Labelle (2), Sebastien Thinel (2), and Dominic Leveille. County boys Pierre Luc Sabourin and Jesse Fontaine each picked up an assist.

Goaltender Josh Loney faced 56 shots, while Cornwall fired 57 at the Pontiac net.

Upcoming home games at Cornwall's multi-sport complex are set for Nov. 2 at 8:30 p.m. versus the Vaudreil Titans and Nov. 3 at 8 p.m. against Mont Laurier.

Canadiens alumni to skate at Palace vs Glens alumni on Oct. 27

On Saturday, Oct. 27, alumni of the Montreal Canadiens will skate at the Glengarry Sports Palace in Alexandria against a team of Glens alumni. The action is set for a 7 p.m. start.

The event is a fundraiser for the Glengarry Memorial Hospital Foundation. Tickets are available by contacting the foundation or North Glengarry Recreation.

Tyke Wildcats prevail in NCAFA playoff opener

The Cornwall tyke 1 Wildcats earned a 48-6 victory over the Bell Warriors, on a chilly Sunday morning at Joe St Denis Field. As occasional snow flurries fell during the Oct. 21 gridiron grudge match, the Wildcats dominated on both sides of the ball.

Glengarrian Connor Hamelin had 9 rushes for 187 yards, scoring 4 touchdowns. On defence, he had 5 solo tackles and 7 assisted tackles. Elliot Keenan recorded 6 rushes for 40 yards, 3 solo tackles, and 7 assisted tackles, while Andrew Wiltshire had one tackle.

The other Cornwall scoring came from Caleb Denney (1 TD) and Bryce Camplin (3 two-point convert kicks).

With the win, the tyke 1 team advances to the NCAFA 'A' semifinal round, scheduled to play against Cornwall's other squad, tyke 2 (which won on the road last weekend in quarter-final action, 48-20 over Kanata), on Sunday, Oct. 28, starting at 10 a.m.

In other results last weekend, the mosquito Wildcats got past the Orleans Bengals 26-6. As a result, Cornwall moves on to play the Nepean Eagles on the road, Saturday, Oct. 27.

The peewee Wildcats were the lone squad to lose last weekend, dropping a 32-27 contest to Kanata. Cornwall's peewees will move into the 'B' playoff round, hosting the West Carleton Wolverines at noon, on Sunday.

Glengarry Gaels claim Harvest Bowl over Tagwi Warriors

A chilly Harvest Bowl contested Oct. 18 in Vankleek Hill saw the Glengarry Gaels football team shut out the Tagwi Warriors 32-0. We have the details in this week's edition of The Glengarry News. For photos of the action, please see the gallery here.
