Last week in Lancaster, the Glengarry Hearts U12 boys soccer team hosted Ottawa City Blue in ERSL regular-season play. At this level, the boys play for fun and development, with no scores, standings, or statistics kept.

The 40th annual Great Raisin River Footrace is in the books, with a local man handily topping the 11 km field, as Green Valley's Jacob Cameron won by six minutes. The first-place female was Leah Kyte.
In the 5 km race, Alexandria's Matthew Houlzet won by a nine-second margin. Michelle Gordon placed first amongst the women.

On Friday night, the soccer season came to an end for Dunvegan's senior men's squad, with a 5-1 loss to the powerhouse team from Vankleek Hill, which has now earned a berth in the GSL championship finals.
The other semifinal series has Greenfield leading McCrimmon one game to none, with the second match booked for Sunday night in Greenfield.

Updating our story in this week's edition of The Glengarry News, the senior men's soccer teams from Vankleek Hill and Greenfield drew first blood in their respective semifinal series, beating Dunvegan (8-0) and McCrimmon (3-1).
Game two of the Dunvegan-VKH series goes Friday night Dunvegan, while the other series will see its second contest on Sunday night in Greenfield. Both are 8:30 p.m. starts.
The 2018 Glengarry Soccer League's senior women's division championship will be decided in a three-game series between Dunvegan and Laggan.
Both teams wrapped up their respective semifinal series earlier this week. Dunvegan dispatched Glen Sandfield, and Laggan outgunned Char-Lan FC. It's worth noting that both Dunvegan and Laggan held their opponents off the scoresheet in sweeping the semis two games to none.
The title series will kick off next Tuesday, in Dunvegan.

The Cornwall Colts of the CCHL have traded for 18-year-old defenceman Evan Huntley, sending a player development fee in return to the Navan Grads.
The Long Sault native is listed at 6 ft. 1 in., 190 lb. He played nine games with the Grads last season and 47 contests with the Char-Lan Rebels junior 'B' team.
"We’re looking to be deeper with talent on defence, and Evan fits the bill," says Colts head coach Ian MacInnis.
The Cornwall Colts training camp is scheduled to begin Monday, August 20, at the Ed Lumley Arena, in Cornwall Civic Complex.
Regular-season play begins at the league-wide showcase, in Kanata, on Saturday, September 1.
Cornwall's home opener is slated for Thursday, September 6, at 7:30 p.m.

Game two in each of the Glengarry Soccer League's senior women's division semifinal series is scheduled for tonight, Aug. 7.
Dunvegan will be looking to close it out on the Lochiel pitch, where the ladies will take on Glen Sandfield. The former won the series opener handily, 9-0.
The other series, between Char-Lan VC and Laggan, needed extra time to see game one decided in favour of the latter. The second match is slated for the field at North Lancaster Park.
Both are 8:30 p.m. starts.

Last night in Glengarry Soccer League senior women's semifinal play on the Lochiel pitch, Laggan's overtime marker by Jen Stewart, off a corner, propelled the Black Shirts to a 1-0 win over Char-Lan FC. The victory also gives Laggan a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.
The other match, in Dunvegan, saw the hosts pound Glen Sandfield 9-0, on goals from Michelle DeRepentigny (5), Ava Gandia (3), and Robyn Gandia.
