Junior 'A' Colts support Rachel's Kids fundraiser

sean Sep 15, 2016 - 11:59am

The Cornwall Colts took part in the Smile Cookies program to support Rachel’s Kids on Wednesday. Several players delivered cookies to staff and patients at Dr. Rachel Navaneelan’s Cosmetic Dentistry office.  The cookies were purchased for $1 each at Cornwall Tim Horton’s locations.  Rachel’s Kids will benefit from the proceeds from the sale of Smile Cookies until September 18.

“Making kids smile by giving them a cookie is a great feeling,” said Colts star Liam Lascelle.

“We really like being able to support community groups,” said Colts star Jeremy McFarlane.

The Colts (4-0) will be back in action tonight (Sept. 15), hosting Cumberland (2-3).  Memorial Cup-winning coach and former NHL coach Doug Carpenter will be the guest of honour and autographing his biography, with all money raised going to the Children’s Treatment Centre.  Game time at the Ed Lumley Arena is set for 7:30pm.

Significant hockey decisions up for vote tonight

sean Apr 13, 2015 - 3:05pm

A pair of significant meetings are scheduled for tonight, with votes likely that could impact both junior and local minor hockey.

EOJHL (junior B) club representatives will meet to review the latest outline for the new CCHL2 league that will replace the current model. Groups have had to ante up a pile of cash to bid for franchises in the new league, with a decision of the successful teams expected to be announced soon, likely this week.

At minor council, a vote is expected on a proposal to expand the current midget 'AAA' hockey league to 12 teams, from its current eight, in order to line up with the 12 clubs that make up the CCHL. The plan also calls for the elimination of the minor midget division in 'AAA' hockey and will likely have trickle down effects on 'AA' and 'A' programs as well.
