Holy Trinity kicks off 'AA' OFSAA soccer with 3-2 loss

The Holy Trinity CSS Falcons senior girls soccer team is competing at 'AA' OFSAA in North Bay.

The girls opened their run this morning with a 3-2 loss to the Saint Michael Mustangs from Niagara Falls. Both HT goals were notched by Melissa Gilligan.

Next round-robin action for the Falcons is booked for 1:30pm this afternoon, versus the Silverthorn Spartans from Etobicoke.

St. Joseph's sweeps regular-season boys soccer titles

Regular-season play in the SDGAA for 'AA' high school boys soccer teams wrapped up this week, with the St. Joseph's Panthers topping the table amongst senior and team squads.

In senior standings, St. Joseph's chalked up 9 points, with Holy Trinity second at 6, and CCVS third at 3. St. Lawrence was pointless.

The junior Panthers had 3 points, while the Falcons recorded none.

Here's the playoff schedule for Monday, May 15, with matches to be played at SJCSS.

  • 9:30am: senior semifinal SJCSS v SLSS
  • 11am: second senior semifinal HTCSS v CCVS
  • 12:30pm: junior championship final SJCSS v HTCSS
  • 2pm: senior championship final for semifinal winners

SD&G senior high school badminton championships set for Cornwall

Holy Trinity and L'Heritage high schools in Cornwall will be the hosts for the 2017 SD&G senior badminton championships, set for Wednesday, April 12.

The GDHS team, coached by Randi Tolhurst, includes the following:

  • girls singles: Heather Raymond, Rylee Franklin
  • boys singles: Liam MacDonald, Bailey Pidgeon
  • mixed doubles: David MacMaster & Olivia Graham, Nicholas Leroux & Ashley Belair
  • girls doubles: Cameron Brodie & Emma Hardy, Robyn Howes & Denali Dorn
  • boys doubles: Dove Rickerd & Xaavian Ali, Cameron MacDonald & Brennan Nadeau

Char-Lan DHS senior girls place first in volleyball, will host playoffs

The senior girls volleyball team at Williamstown's Char-Lan District High School finished the SDGAA volleyball season first place in the standings, earning the right to host the 'A' playoff tournament, which is set for Monday, Feb. 13.

Note (updated Feb.13): Due to school bus cancellations, scheduled games for Feb. 13 have been postponed. Watch for our new story with updated information, as it becomes available.

The top six finishers – Char-Lan (1st), La Citadelle (2nd), GDHS, North Dundas, Seaway, and Tagwi – qualify for the competition.

Here's the schedule of matches:

  • 9am: GDHS vs Tagwi (qf1)
  • 10am: North Dundas vs Seaway (qf2)
  • 11:15am: Char-Lan vs lowest-seeded winner of quarter-finals (sf1)
  • 12:30pm: La Citadelle vs highest-seeded winner of quarter-finals (sf2)
  • 2pm: championship match

Junior 'A' playoffs

L'Heritage is hosting the junior 'A' playoffs also on Monday. Both Tagwi (6th) and GDHS (5th) have qualified.

'AA' division playoffs

Junior 'AA' playoffs will be hosted by St. Joseph's on Feb. 16, the same day as the senior 'AA' playoffs at Holy Trinity.

Char-Lan Crusaders boys score a pair of wins in high school hockey

It was a fine day on the ice for the Char-Lan DHS boys hockey team, which prevailed 6-1 over GDHS and 8-1 against Holy Trinity. In other action today from Williamstown, the Gaels beat La Citadelle 4-2, while St. Joseph's blanked the Falcons 4-0.

Char-Lan DHS girls score two wins in girls hockey

After getting a bye in the first high school girls hockey tournament of the season last week, the Char-Lan Crusaders took it to their opponents in action today in Alexandria, scoring a pair of decisive wins. 

Also playing for the first time this season were the GDHS Gaels, who suffered two defeats. Tagwi dropped both its matches today, while Holy Trinity won one and tied its other.

This week's edition of The Glengarry News includes a round-up of the opened tournament, which was held last week in Chesterville. We will have full details from today's event in our first edition of 2017, setting the stage for the resumption of the high school sports season in January.

Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School is hosting the SD&G girls 'AA' soccer playoffs today, Oct. 31, for  both the senior and junior divisions.

Here's the day's schedule:

10 a.m.: senior semifinal St. Joseph's vs Seaway
11:30 a.m.: junior championship match St. Joseph's vs Holy Trinity
1 p.m.: senior championship final Holy Trinity vs winner of semi
