Wildcats football teams win three of four

It was a good weekend for the NCAFA Cornwall Wildcats football teams, as three of the four squads garnered victories.

The lone blemish came from the peewees, who led at halftime, only to fall in the end, 27-25.

The tyke 2 team won its match against the Bell Warriors 46-24, and the mosquito Wildcats scored a 46-0 shut-out triumph.

Tyke 1 played against the Mustangs, finishing with a 70-32 victory.

Wildcats tyke teams prevail in week two

In week two NCAFA football action, the Cornwall Wildcats mosquito and peewee teams both had byes, while the tykes prevailed over their opponents.

Tyke 2 beat Nepean Eagles 42-26, playing at Nepean’s home field, and Tyke 1 beat South Ottawa Mustangs 68-36, in Cornwall.

The county is well represented, with players on each of the Wildcats rosters.

OFC Cornwall Wildcats end disappointing season

Last Saturday, the OFC Cornwall Wildcats officially ended their 2018 campaign with an intra-squad game. The team finished with a 1-7 record, the only win coming by way of a forfeit.

Tryouts, training begin for regional youth football season

The Cornwall Wildcats will field tackle football teams at three levels of play in the Ottawa-based NCAFA league this summer and fall.

The tyke program is for girls and boys aged 7-9, the mosquito level for ages 10 and 11, and the peewee program for the 12- and 13-year-olds.

All protective equipment is provided with registration fees (2018 cost is $315, which includes game socks). Games are played on Sundays, with practices twice weekly, in Cornwall. The season runs August through October.

Tryouts/training begin on Sunday, July 22.

OFC Cornwall Wildcats in action Saturday afternoon

One thing has to give on Saturday afternoon in Cornwall, as a pair of winless OFC football teams are set to collide on the Joe St. Denis Field.

The Wildcats, which feature several boys from Glengarry county, are 0-4, while their scheduled opponents, the Peterborough Wolverines, are 0-5. With a win, one of these teams will climb out of the East Division basement.

This is the first season for the Wildcats playing in the OFC. Previously, they competed in the OVFL, which is now defunct.

The OFC varsity league provides provincewide football for teens aged 17 to 19.

Saturday's game is set for a 1 p.m. opening kickoff.

NCAFA Cornwall Wildcats football teams advance to 'A' semifinals

All three Cornwall Wildcats football teams will be playing in the NCAFA 'A' semifinals this weekend.

Last Sunday, the tyke Wildcats hosted the Gatineau Vikings, prevailing 32-7. Among the Glengarry contingent, Ben Jackman had his customary strong game on defence. Other county boys on the squad are Elliott Keenan, Payton Savenco, Kingston Savenco, Andrew Wiltshire, Nacky Shareck, and Nathan Wood.

Cornwall's mosquitos won their quarter-final game versus the North Gloucester Giants with a 32-20 effort. The roster includes county boys Travis Brisebois and Connor McDougall.

The peewees beat the Belair Lions 27-20. Glengarry members of the team are Cooper Jackman, Oliver Keenan, and Cameron Belisle.

This weekend's semifinal action will have the tykes on the road against the Kanata Knights, while the peewees will be in Ottawa to play the Myers Riders.

The mosquito Wildcats get to play their semifinal on home turf at Joe St. Denis Field, booked to host the Cumberland Panthers.
