Business raided

Police raided an Alexandria metal reycling operation early last Thursday as part of an investigation into an alleged multi-million-dollar “complex” tax evasion scheme.

Officers executed a search warrant at Kenyon Auto Centre on County Road 45 March 16 during Opération Nobélium, a two-year Sûreté du Québec probe of a series of transactions that allegedly defrauded the Québec government of $17 million in tax revenue over a period of 19 months.

Local boys to play in Quebec football finals

Several youngsters who are products of the Glengarry Gaels community football program will be in action this weekend, playing in Quebec provincial finals.

The St. Lazare midget team will be in St. Leonard on Saturday, for a 5pm game with the Chateauguay Raiders. The winning side will get the Jack Simpson Cup, as provincial champs. Members of this team include Alex Zarifi and Ryan Leclerc.

St. Lazare's atoms will host the provincial final at that level on Nov. 12 at 10am, entertaining the St. Hubert Rebelles. Among the players is Nacky Sharek.
