U18 'AAA' hockey photo gallery: Cornwall Colts vs Nepean Raiders

There was U18 'AAA' hockey in Cornwall on Saturday, and we were there shooting photos of the Cornwall Colts game. The 2017-18 edition of the team includes a slew of county boys.

Cornwall junior A Colts hit home ice tonight, honour U18 Colts

Cornwall's junior 'A' Colts will skate in their home opener tonight, Sept. 7, at the Cornwall Civic Complex. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m., versus the Brockville Braves.

The Colts enter the game with a 1-2 record, while Brockville is 2-1. County players on the Cornwall team include forwards Keegan Mulhearn, Ethan Mulhearn, and Jeremy Quesnel, along with defencemen Ben Dirven and Roddie Sandilands.

As part of festivities tonight, last season's U18 Colts team which won the HEO midget 'AAA' championship last season will be honoured.

Fans invited to Cornwall Colts meet-and-greet event

The Cornwall Colts invite their fans and community partners to help kick off the team's 26th CCHL season on Thursday, August 31, at Shoeless Joe’s in Cornwall (1110 Brookdale Avenue).

Players from both the junior 'A' and U18 teams will be on hand from 4 to 7 pm to talk hockey, as they prepare for the regular season, which opens on the weekend. 

The CCHL Colts will open their portion of the regular season on Saturday versus the Smiths Falls Bear (4:45 pm start) at the Sensplex, as part of the annual CCHL Showcase in Ottawa. First home game at the Ed Lumley Arena is booked for Thursday, September 7 at 7:30 pm with the Brockville Braves visiting.

Once again this season, the roster of both the junior 'A' and U18 squads are expected to include a solid contingent of Glengarry county players.

Glengarry U18 Hearts girls remain undefeated in league play

With a 1-0 win on June 29, the U18 girls Glengarry Hearts soccer team improved its ERSL record to 4-0. Taylor Simard had the goal, in the game against Carleton Place United.

Next league action is slated for July 6 on the road against Ottawa City.

In ER Shield play, the Hearts were eliminated back on June 19, falling 2-1 to Cumberland United. Madeleine Chisholm had the goal for Glengarry.

Dirven named U18 HEO defenceman of the month

Bainsville's Benjamin Dirven, a member of the Cornwall U18 Colts, has been named defenceman of the month for February.

The 2000-born blueliner led with a points per game rating of 1.25, off 3 goals and 10 points over eight games. That stretch saw the Colts go 4-3-0-1.

In 45 games this season, the 6 ft. 1in., 178 lb. left-handed blueliner scored 11 times and totalled 34 points, good enough for third overall amongst all league defenders. Dirven continues to put more and more together adding to his already solid toolset  He improved by a total of 10 goals and 29 points in only two more games this season compared to last, when he scored 1 goal and 5 points in 43 games.
