It was an accomplishment 65 years in the making, as the Maxville team tonight took the championship of The Glengarry News Hockey Cup in a game-seven thriller over the South Glengarry squad.
Maxville last won the coveted country trophy in 1952, while the southerners were the defending champs.
Six games settled nothing, so the 2017 Glengarry News Hockey Cup will come down to a one-game, winner-take-all finale tonight, in Maxville, starting at 8pm.
The Maxville team drew even in the series on Tuesday night, beating South Glengarry 5-1, setting the stage for tonight's affair.
The Cup will be presented to the winning team at the conclusion of the match. Individual player awards will also be handed out then.

There are two big sports events scheduled in the county tonight, with game six of The Glengarry News Hockey Cup set to hit the ice at the Char-Lan Rec. Centre in Williamstown, at 8pm.
South Glengarry will be looking to finish off the Maxville team, and with a win, will capture the trophy. Should Maxville prevail, the series will go to a seventh game.

Also tonight, the second match in the Glengarry Soccer League's senior men's finals will go at the dome in Alexandria, where Tartan will take on McCrimmon, at 8:30pm. Tartan, with a win, will take the title.
And if that weren't enough, Green Valley's Remi Elie will be skating in Montreal tonight, where the Habs are hosting Elie's Dallas Stars.
Last night in Williamstown, South Glengarry romped to a 10-1 victory over the Maxville team, drawing even in the finals of The Glengarry News Hockey Cup.
It was a spirited affair, featuring a pair of bouts, in addition to plenty of offence from the home side.
Today, at 4:30pm, the series continues in Maxville, with the teams now knotted at two games apiece in the best-of-seven series.
With back-to-back victories on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, the Maxville team has built a two-games-to-one advantage Over South Glengarry, in the best-of-seven finals of The Glengarry News Hockey Cup.
The fourth match is set for Saturday evening in Williamstown, starting at 7:30pm.
