Local boys and girls ages 13-17 are invited to attend the July 15 clinic on the field at Laggan Public School, starting at 9am. Under the auspices of veteran competitor Lisa MacDonald, teen athletes will be introduced to the heavyweight events and given an opportunity to try each, with spots in the Intermediate Heavyweights competition at the Glengarry Highland Games on the line.
The number of competitors for the Maxville Games will be capped at 8 this year.
Events will include the following: 10 lb. sheaf toss, 12 lb. hammer throw, 12 lb. stone throw, 14 lb. weight for distance, and caber turn.
Highland attire is encouraged, and parental supervision requested for the competition.
Clinic attendance is mandatory to qualify for the Aug. 5 competition, which this year will be moved to the infield, in front of the grandstand. In past years, it had been held outside the fenced area on one of the soccer fields.
The second annual Up the Glens Kilt run 5k will be held Saturday, Aug. 5, as part of the closing of the Glengarry Highland Games in Maxville. Entry is $50, which includes admission to the Games for Saturday, along with a souvenir T-shirt and bib, and the use of a timing device.
The event is open to anyone 13 years of age and older, and as the name suggests, participants must wear a kilt.
Online registration is available here.
