Junior A Colts clip Pembroke in Thursday night CCHL action

Tristan Poissant’s two goals led the Colts to a 3-2 victory over Pembroke, at the Ed Lumley Arena on Thursday night.

The Colts have won four of their last five games, improving to 10-11-3-0, for 23 points and are tied for 7th in the CCHL standings.

Justin McRae also scored for the Colts, with Mike Carr making 32 saves to earn the victory. The Colts outshot the Lumber Kings 40-34.

Three stars were first Tristan Poissant (COR), second Mike Carr (COR), and third Darian McTavish (PEM). Cornwall's Hardest Working Player of the Game was Mike Carr.

The Colts' next game is today, Nov. 9, in Rockland. Game time is 7:30 p.m. The team will be back on home ice next Thursday, Nov. 15, to host the Kanata Lasers, at 7:30 p.m., at the Ed Lumley Arena, in Cornwall.

Vrbetic backstops Team Canada Black win in U17 hockey

Dunvegan's Joe Vrbetic made 27 saves against the USA to backstop Team Canada Black to a 5-4 victory this afternoon at the World U17 Hockey Challenge in New Brunswick.

The result completes the team's round-robin action with 1 regulation-time win, 1 overtime win, and 1 overtime loss, for six points.

This was Vrbetic's second game at the tournament. He was also between the pipes on Sunday, when his team fell 5-4 in overtime to Team Canada White. On Monday, with Garin Bjorklund in goal, Team Canada Black won in overtime, 3-2, over the Czech Republic.

Two Alexandria Glens honoured by CCHL2

In announcing the October Performers of the Month in the CCHL2 (Westport player Blake Kettyle, Ottawa West goaltender Miguel Daoust, and Ottawa rookie Noel de Kemp), the league also delivered honourable mentions to a pair of Alexandria Glens.

Mikael Gibault was recognized in the player category, while Mathieu Parent was identified amongst the rookies.

Junior A Colts edge Nepean in Thursday night CCHL hockey

Michal Carr made 20 saves to backstop the Cornwall Colts to a 2-1 victory over the Nepean Raiders, at the Ed Lumley Arena, on Thursday night.

The Colts outshot the Raiders 36-21 to improve to 8-10-3-0, for 19 points, and into a tie for seventh overall in the CCHL standings.

Ethan Mulhearn and Alex Gagnon provided the offence for the Colts. Cedric Matte, acquired last week in the David Poirier trade with Carleton Place, was named the Hardest Working Colts Player of the Game.

Three stars were first Alex Gagnon (COR), second Tristan Poissant (COR), and third William Venne (NEP).

Next game for Cornwann's junior 'A' hockey team is booked for tonight, Nov. 2, in Brockville. Start time is 7:30 p.m.. at the Brockville Memorial Centre.

The Colts return home on Thursday, Nov. 8 to host the Pembroke Lumber Kings, at 7:30 p.m., at the Ed Lumley Arena.

Last weekened, the Montreal Canadiens alumni team took on the Alexandria Glens alumni in a fundraiser for our hospital's foundation. A packed Palace took in the action, and we have the story and photos in the Oct. 31 edition of The Glengarry News.

Limited standing room, VIP tickets remain for Canadiens alumni game

With regular seating sold out, limited standing room tickets in the arena and in the hall at the glass (elevator accessible) will be available at the door for Saturday's special hockey game fundraiser in support of the Glengarry Memorial Hospital foundation. These tickets cost $45.

As of this posting, just 10 VIP tickets remain available. These include dinner and dessert before the game, and meet & greet with the Habs alumni after the game. Cost is $85. Dinner starts at 5 p.m.

Game time is set for 7 p.m.

As a little bonus, there will be a tykes mini-game between the first and second periods of the alumni game.

The hockey action features alumni of the Montreal Canadiens taking on a group of Alexandria Glens alumni. For roster details, see this earlier post.
