Junior B Glens back on home ice tonight

Friday night hockey returns to the Glengarry Sports Palace tonight, Oct. 5, with the Embrun Panthers providing the opposition. Start time is set for 8 p.m. The Glens are still looking for their first home-ice win of the season. In each of the last two weeks, Alexandria held a lead, only to see it eroded, with the games ending in losses.

The Glens are 2-3 on the season thus far, while Embrun's record is 1-4-1.

These include photos from high school junior football (Glengarry Gaels), high school senior football (Tagwi Warriors), high school girls basketball (GDHS Gaels and Holy Trinity Falcons), and U18 hockey (Hawkesbury Hawks vs. OHA Gold).

Green Valley's Elie bids adieu to Stars teammates

Remi Elie is on the move, having been picked off waivers by the NHL Buffalo Sabres, yesterday. The Green Valley resident was drafted by the Dallas Stars and had been with the organization for the last three seasons, split between the AHL-affiliate Texas Stars and the big club.

Following the surprise development, Elie bid adieu to his teammates. We will have more coverage in The News next week.

Last Friday night, the county's junior B hockey teams collided in this season's opening round of the Battle of Glengarry. Be sure to check out our story in the Oct. 3 edition of The Glengarry News. A photo gallery of the action can be viewed here.

Through three weeks of the 2018-19 CCHL2 campaign, the Char-Lan Rebels have amongst the better records league-wide, at 8 points, tied with the Casselman Vikings for second place in the Martin Division and third overall.

The Alexandria Glens have just four points and sit in the middle of the pack, with a 0.400 record.

Rebels continue points streak

With a 5-4 victory in Alexandria last night, the Char-Lan Rebels CCHL2 hockey team extended its points streak (and extended its winning streak to three games in the process) to five games to open the season.

Can the boys keep it going? Find out tonight in Williamstown, where the Rebs will be hosting the Perth Blue Wings, beginning at 8 p.m.

Colts on a three-game home winning streak

Tristan Poissant’s fourth goal of the season broke a 2-2 tied in the third period, and the Colts went on to a 6-3 victory over Ottawa, at the Ed Lumley Arena, Thursday night.

Six different players scored for the Colts, including Henry Bishop, Benjamin Dirven, Jacob Shankar, Jeremy Quesnel, and Connor Amsley. Tommy Tanner chipped in with three assists. Konnor MacCormick had two assists. 

The Jr. Sens outshot the Colts 41-34, with Michael Carr making 38 saves for the victory.

The Colts improve to 3-6-0-0 on the season and have won their last three home games.

The Hardest Working Player of the game was Benjamin Dirven. Three stars were first Star Tommy Tanner (COR), second Tristan Poissant (COR), and third Connor Smart (OTT).

Tonight, the boys are on the road in Smiths Falls. Game time is 7 p.m.

The Colts return home next Thursday, October 4 to host the Rockland Nationals, in a 7:30 p.m. start at the Cornwall Civic Complex.

Junior A Colts split week four CCHL hockey action

Last Thursday night on home ice, the Cornwall Colts nabbed their second-straight victory, beating Navan 6-4.

The Colts scored three times in the first three minutes of the first period, en route to the win. Josh Barnes scored into an empty net with less than a minute to play to seal the victory. Barnes had two goals on the night. Konnor MacCormick and Justin McRae each had a goal and an assist. Tristan Poissant and Jeremy Quesnel also scored. Jacob Shankar chipped in with two assists.

The Grads outshot the Colts 36-31. Michael Carr stopped 22 of 23 shots in relief of starter Rico DiMatteo to earn the victory in goal.

Hardest Working Player honours went to Ethan Mulhearn. Three stars were first Konnor MacCormick (COR), second Justin McRae (COR), and third Jackson Arcan (NAV).

The next night, on the road in Brockville, the Colts were humbled 4-1. Jack Collins had the lone Cornwall tally, set up by Poissant and Tommy Tanner.

Prowlers hockey team to skate in exhibition action this weekend

The Cornwall Prowlers senior 'A' hockey team will hit the ice twice this weekend in exhibition LHSAO action. Friday, Sept. 28 will see the squad playing in Maxville, at 8:30 p.m., versus Vaudreuil-Dorion. The same two teams will then go at it Sunday, Sept. 30, at 7:30 p.m., at Cornwall's multi-sport complex.

Last Sunday, the first-year team held a Blue-versus-White intra-squad contest, where Blue prevailed in overtime on a beautiful low blocker-side shot from Stevie Adams.

Blue team goals were scored by Adams (2), Brandon Gilmour (2), and Brian Landry. White team goals came from Dominic Leveille, Jonathan Labelle, Jesse Fontaine, and Pierre Luc Sabourin.

The puck drops on regular-season play Oct. 6 in Vaudreuil-Dorion.
