Rescheduled due to inclement weather and bus cancellations last week, the SD&G high school curling championships are taking place today and tomorrow, in Morrisburg.
Char-Lan DHS has two girls rinks and one boys team competing in the event, while Glengarry has a team in each division (boys, girls, mixed). Tagwi is only entered in the boys group, while Holy Trinity's lone team is a female foursome.
Today's school closures due to the approaching winter storm forced the postponement of a slate of high school boys basketball games that were to wrap up regular-season play. Instead, the matches will now be played Thursday, Feb. 14. St. Lawrence is the host. Tagwi's senior squad is booked to play twice (at 10 a.m. versus l'Heritage and 1 p.m. against the Saints), while the junior Warriors will take on St. Lawrence at 11:30 a.m.
As a result of this change, 'A' playoffs, originally slated for Thursday, have been moved.
The senior tournament will go Friday at St. Lawrence. Joining the Saints will be Glengarry, Tagwi, and l'Heritage, though seeding won't be finalized until the Thursday's games have been played. Semifinals are slated for 9:30 and 11 a.m., with the championship game at 1 p.m.
Junior 'A' playoffs are now scheduled for Feb. 19, at la Citadelle. Char-Lan and St. Lawrence are scheduled to battle in a semifinal, at 11 a.m., while the other, at 9:30 a.m., will feature the host Patriotes against either Seaway or Tagwi (depending on the result of the Warriors' game on Thursday). The title tilt is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
Tagwi Secondary Schools junior Warriors girls volleyball team completed the SDGAA regular season atop the standings, earning the right the host the 'A' playoff tournament, which is scheduled for Monday, February 11.
The qualifiers and their seeds are as follows: 1st Tagwi, 2nd la Citadelle, 3rd North Dundas, 4th Heritage, 5th Glengarry, 6th Char-Lan
The day's schedule will begin with North Dundas playing Char-Lan at 10:30 a.m, followed by a match between Heritage and Glengarry, starting approximately 11:30 a.m. The host Warriors will first see action at 12:45 p.m., playing the lowest remaining seed in the first semifinal match. La Citadelle gets the other semi, at 1:45 p.m, versus the remaining quarter-finalist.
The championship match is booked for a 3 p.m. start.
All matches are best two of three sets.

'AA' playoffs will be contested on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at either CCVS or St. Joseph's. (Location to be confirmed)
With school bus cancellations on Monday and Tuesday, convenors of SD&G high school sports have had to re-jig some schedules, including boys basketball.
Today, Feb. 6, St. Joseph's (Cornwall) is scheduled to host a tri-meet that includes senior and junior teams from Holy Trinity and St. Lawrence.
There's also a tri-meet in Williamstown, featuring Char-Lan, CCVS, and la Citadelle senior and junior squads. This event had originally been scheduled for yesterday.
Tomorrow, Feb. 7, a tri-meet is booked for Winchester, where North Dundas, Glengarry, and Seaway senior and junior teams will see action. With poor weather forecast, convenors have a contingency. Should school buses be cancelled, this tournament will be moved to Feb. 11.
On Friday, Feb. 8, Char-Lan will host St. Lawrence in junior and senior matches, set to begin at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
'AA' playoffs are slated for Monday, Feb. 11. We will post details to our website once confirmed.
Tuesday, Feb. 12 will see a tri-meet take place at St. Lawrence, with the Saints taking on Tagwi and l'Heritage. This is a tournament that was originally booked for Feb. 4.
The 'A' playoffs will take place on Thursday, Feb. 14.

The boys hockey team from Char-Lan DHS struggled offensively in its game today versus North Dundas, unable to capitalize on its many chances, as the teams skated to a 1-1 tie. Earlier, the Crusaders pounded Tagwi 10-0.
Holy Trinity, meanwhile, failed to score a goal on the day, blanked 5-0 by Seaway and 4-0 by la Citadelle, though it wasn't for wont of trying.
Tagwi's other result was a much closer affair, a 3-2 loss to la Citadelle.

Tuesday's SDGAA high school girls hockey league tournament in Williamstown saw the Tagwi Warriors score a pair of victories, as the ladies beat Holy Trinity 3-1 and St. Joseph's 3-2. The wins moved the Warriors into a second-place tie with North Dundas and the Panthers.
In other results at the Jan. 8 competition, the Falcons blasted la Citadelle 6-2 to remain atop the standings. Their loss to the Warriors is the lone blemish on the season, which has HT with a 5-1 record.
Char-Lan was humbled 10-4 by la Citadelle and lost a close 3-2 contest with North Dundas. St. Joseph's blanked the Devils 3-0.
