Serving Kindness beach volleyball tournament set for July 21

sean Jul 10, 2018 - 12:02pm

On July 21 at the beach in Charlottenburgh Park, Serving Kindness, a volleyball tournament, will be held.

Colton Gallant and his committee have been co-ordinating this event with Lissa Deslandes, of the Raisin River Conservation Authority, aiming for a successful inaugural tourney. Proceeds will be divided up and donated to different families in the area who are currently experiencing financial hardship.

The cost per team is $200 (6-12 players), and this is also a co-ed tournament, with each team required to have a female on the court at all times. As of this posting, eight teams have signed up.

DJ Poswah (Eric Laszewski, 28, Cornwall) has kindly agreed to spin tunes throughout the day.

Teams and individuals are also encouraged to book a campsite, stay the night, and support Charlottenburg Park.

The event logo was created by Colton’s older sister, Caitlyn Gallant, who also came up with the names.

For more information, visit the Facebook event page or call Colton Gallant at 613-360-8800.

Tagwi's intermediate boys place third in UC Cup volleyball

sean Jan 27, 2018 - 3:37pm

Last week, Tagwi Intermediate School hosted the finals of the UC Cup volleyball tournament, for boys and girls from schools across the UCDSB. The girls tournament ran on Wednesday, followed by the boys competition Thursday, where the homecourt Warriors garnered bronze.

The next edition of The Glengarry News, to be published Jan. 31, will include photos and a story from the event, with full results.

The UC Cup (or Upper Canada Cup) is a sports event organized for schools in the Upper Canada District School Board. There are regional qualifier tournaments across the span of the board, followed by a final tournament in each of a range of sports. Glengarry District and Tagwi field teams for the UC Cup events, while Char-Lan does not, opting instead to focus on the non-competitive Family of Schools sports events.
