Lasers stun Cornwall 'A' Colts

Kanata scored six unanswered goals en route to an 8-3 win over the Colts at the Ed Lumley Arena Thursday night.

The Colts led 3-2 after the first period, but it was all Kanata after that.

The Cornwall boys outshot the Lasers 33-31, as Liam Lascelle was tagged with the loss.

Chris Mammas led the Colts offence with his first goal of the season to go along with his team-leading 13th assist of the campaign. Cameron Hebert (10) and Justin McRae (10) also scored.

Cornwall's record drops to 12-11-2-0 (26 points) for a tie for fifth overall in the CCHL.

The  Hardest Working Player of the Game was Tommy Tanner.

Three Stars were first Liam Markhouser (KAN), second Connor Rider (KAN), and third Chris Mammas (COR).

The Colts are right back in action Friday night when they travel to Brockville to face the Braves. Game time is 7:30 pm at the Brockville Memorial Centre.

Next home game is Thursday, Nov. 16 to face off against the CCHL-leading Carleton Place Canadians. The contest has free admission to all children 12 & under in recognition of National Child Day later this month. Game time is 7:30 pm at the Ed Lumley Arena (Cornwall Civic Complex).

Cornwall Colts nab 4-3 road win in Navan

Sunday saw the CCHL Cornwall Colts junior 'A' hockey team score a 4-3 road win over Navan. 

South Glengarry's Keegan Mulhearn scored the game-winning marker in the third period. Find the net earlier were teammates Konnor MacCormick, Tommy Tanner, and Cameron Hebert.

The Colts have a 12-10-2-0 record entering play this week.

Junior A Colts whip Nationals

J.D Pogue’s hat trick paced the Colts to a 5-2 win over Rockland at the Ed Lumley Arena on Thursday night.

It was a penalty-filled affair, with 31 trips to the sin bin handed out for 103 penalty minutes. The Colts were 3 for 12 on the power play, while the National were 1 for 8.

Konnor MacCormick had a goal (5) and two assists for the Colts. Keegan Mulhearn (6) also scored. Tommy Tanner and Justin McRae each chipped in with two assists.

The Colts outshot the Nationals 45-23, with Liam Lascelle picking up the win in goal. With the win, Cornwall improves to 11-10-2-0 (24 points) and moves into a four-way tie for fourth overall in the CCHL standings.

Three Stars were first J.D Pogue (COR), second Tommy Tanner (COR), and third Drew Shields (ROCK). The Hardest Working Player of the Game was J.D Pogue.

The Colts are back in action on Sunday versus the Navan Grads. Game time is 7:30 pm at the Navan Arena. Next home game is booked for Thursday, Nov. 9 to face off against the Kanata Lasers. Game time is 7:30 pm at the Ed Lumley Arena in Cornwall Civic Complex.

Colts player of the month

The Colts Player of the Month for October, based on three-star selections, was a tie between Liam Lascelle and Justin McRae, each of whom garnered 11 points.

Junior A Colts use overtime to beat Bears

Chris Theodore’s CCHL-leading 15th goal of the season was the game-winner, as the Colts beat Smiths Falls 3-2 in overtime last Thursday at the Cornwall Civic Complex.

Tommy Tanner scored his first goal as a member of the Colts, while Cameron Hebert (7) also found the back of the Bears net.

The Bears outshot the Colts 38-28, with Liam Lascelle making 36 saves, including 5 saves in overtime, for the victory.

Three Stars were first Chris Theodore (COR), second Mark Shannon (SF), and third Liam Lascelle (COR).

On Friday night, the Colts dropped a 3-1 decision on the road against the Kanata Lasers. The lone Cornwall goal came from Cameron Hebert.

The team enters play this week with a 9-9-2-0 record for fourth place in the Yzerman Division of the CCHL.

Junior 'A' Colts add depth forward

The Cornwall Colts have added forward depth in a trade that brought Tommy Tanner from the Calgary Canucks of the AJHL, in return for a player development fee.

The 19-year-old Montreal-born forward spent the past three seasons playing for Kent School in the USHS, where he collected 40 points in 66 games before joining the Canucks to begin the 2017-18 season.

"He’s my kind of player," says Colts coach Ian MacInnis, of the 6 ft., 175 lb. forward. "He brings a two-way, gritty style every shift."

Raiders upset Cornwall junior 'A' Colts

Nepean built a 3-1 first-period lead, en route to a 5-1 victory over the Colts on Thursday night, at the Ed Lumley Arena.

Fifteen-year-old Josh Barnes scored his first CCHL goal for the Colts, after being called up to play for the Jr. 'A' club earlier in the week.

The Raiders outshot the Colts 47-23, with Michael Carr getting tagged with the loss.  Liam Lascelle came into the game in relief to start the second period. The Colts' record drops to 6-6-1-0 (13 points).

Three stars were first Davis Browning (NEP), second Ryan Horvath (NEP), and third Josh Barnes (COR). The Hardest Working Colts Player was Josh Barnes.

Looking ahead, the boys travel to Ottawa to play the Jr. Senators on Saturday night. Game time is 7:30 pm at the Jim Durrell Rec Centre. Cornwall plays Pembroke as part of the CCHL Thanksgiving Day Showcase on Monday at 12:45 pm, at the CIH Arena in Rockland.

The Colts return home next Thursday (Oct. 12) to face off against the Hawkesbury Hawks. Game time is 7:30 pm at the Ed Lumley Arena, in Cornwall Civic Complex. This match will be a great opportunity to see the county players who are part of the rosters of both the Colts and Hawks.

Junior 'A' Colts fall in overtime

Liam Lascelle made 45 saves, but it wasn’t enough as the Carleton Place Canadians beat the Colts 4-3 in overtime at the Cornwall Civic Complex on Thursday night. Lascelle earned first star and Hardest Working Player honours, as the Canadians outshot the Colts 49-14.

Cameron Hebert (with his fourth of the season) and Alexandria's Jeremy Quesnel (with his first career CCHL marker) each had a goal and an assist for the Colts. Alec Vent also scored his first CCHL goal.

The Colts' record stands at 5-5-1-0 (11 points).

Second star was Tim Theocharidis (CP),  and third star Travis Broughman (CP).

The Colts finished 0-for-3 on the power play, while the Canadians were 2-for-7 with the man advantage.

Cornwall's next game is in Navan versus the Grads on Sunday. Game time is 2 pm at the Navan Arena.

The Colts return home next Thursday (Oct, 5) to face off against the Nepean Raiders. Game time is 7:30 pm at the Ed Lumley Arena.

Colts' Theodore named CCHL player of the week

Cornwall Colts forward Chris Theodore has been named the CCHL Player of the Week.

Theodore had four goals in leading the Colts to back-to-back victories over Kemptville last week. The 19-year-old Beaconsfield native leads the CCHL with 10 goals (including 2 short-handed). Theodore has at least one goal in seven of the Colts first nine games.

The Colts (5-4-0-0 for 10 points) play the Jr Senators (7-2-0-0 for 14 points) in Ottawa tonight. Game time is 7:30 pm at the Jim Durrell Rec Centre. On Thursday, the Colts return home to face off against the CCHL leading Carleton Place Canadians. Game time is 7:30 pm at the Ed Lumley Arena.

U18 'AAA' hockey photo gallery: Cornwall Colts vs Nepean Raiders

There was U18 'AAA' hockey in Cornwall on Saturday, and we were there shooting photos of the Cornwall Colts game. The 2017-18 edition of the team includes a slew of county boys.

Junior A Colts teach Grads a lesson

The junior 'A' Colts scored three unanswered goals en route to a 5-3 home-ice victory over the Navan Grads on Thursday night. 

Navan led 2-0 and then 3-2 late in the second period.

David Poirier’s first goal was the eventual game-winner with seven minutes left the third period, before Chris Theodore’s (4) highlight-reel marker sealed the victory with two and half minutes left to play.  

Poirier added two assists. Keegan Mulhearn (3) scored twice, with Justin McRae (2) also scoring. Evan Bidenti counted a pair of helpers.

The Grads outshot the Colts 39-38, with Liam Lascelle making 36 saves for the victory. The Colts improve to 3-3-0-0 (6 points) on the CCHL season.

The county's own Keegan Mulhearn earned Hardest Working Player of the Game honours.

Three Stars were first Keegan Mulhearn (COR), second David Poirier (COR), and third Keenan Reynolds (NAV).

Cornwall's next contest is slated for Sunday afternoon against the Canadians in Carleton Place. Game time is 3 pm.

Next Thursday (Sept. 21), the Colts will be back on home ice at the Civic Complex to face off against the Kemptville 73s. The Colts will also welcome Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Cornwall and District, with support from the Cornwall Lions Club. Game time is 7:30 pm.
