AAA minor bantam Wild claim league championship

The Eastern Ontario Wild minor bantam AAA hockey team is the 2018 HEO league playoff championship, clinching the crown on March 24 with a 5-2 win over the Ottawa Jr. 67s. 

The Wild squad of 2004 birth year players includes Summerstown's Connor MacDonald, on defence.

There was U18 'AAA' hockey in Cornwall on Saturday, and we were there shooting photos of the Cornwall Colts game. The 2017-18 edition of the team includes a slew of county boys.

Fans invited to Cornwall Colts meet-and-greet event

The Cornwall Colts invite their fans and community partners to help kick off the team's 26th CCHL season on Thursday, August 31, at Shoeless Joe’s in Cornwall (1110 Brookdale Avenue).

Players from both the junior 'A' and U18 teams will be on hand from 4 to 7 pm to talk hockey, as they prepare for the regular season, which opens on the weekend. 

The CCHL Colts will open their portion of the regular season on Saturday versus the Smiths Falls Bear (4:45 pm start) at the Sensplex, as part of the annual CCHL Showcase in Ottawa. First home game at the Ed Lumley Arena is booked for Thursday, September 7 at 7:30 pm with the Brockville Braves visiting.

Once again this season, the roster of both the junior 'A' and U18 squads are expected to include a solid contingent of Glengarry county players.

Major bantam Wild AAA hockey team vying for HEO championship

The Eastern Ontario Wild major bantam AAA hockey team, coached by Frank Hincks, is competing for the HEO league championship, facing off against the top-seeded Ottawa Jr. 67s.

The Wild prevailed in the previous playoff round, seven points to one, over the Upper Canada Cyclones. After tying the first game 1-1, the Wild went on to three straight wins: 5-1, 4-0, and 4-2.

The boys opened the finals on March 5 with a 1-1 tie.

Looking ahead, the squad is booked to play the 67s next on March 9 in Rockland, starting at 7:15pm. Game three will go in Ottawa the next day, at 7pm, followed by a fourth contest in Alexandria, on Sunday, March 12, at 1pm.

Aside from the coach, the squad includes a slew of county players, such as the goaltending tandem of Nicholas Heinzle and Joe Vrbetic. Others are defencemen Brendon Watson and John Richer, along with forwards Ethan Attridge and Innes Thomson.

Wild AAA major bantams look to close out playoff series tonight in Cardinal

The Eastern Ontario Wild major bantam 'AAA' hockey team, under head coach Frank Hincks, is leading its playoff series five points to one, and with a win tonight in Cardinal over the Upper Canada Cyclones, will advance to the next round.

The Wild prevailed 4-0 on Sunday afternoon in Alexandria to get themselves in this position.

Game time tonight is 7pm.

Should the series be extended, the next game is set for March 2, in Rockland, beginning at 8:15pm.

Eastern Ontario AAA major bantam Wild set for playoffs this week

The Eastern Ontario Wild 'AAA' major bantam hockey team completed the regular season in second place and are scheduled to see playoff action this week, beginning tonight in Rockland, where the boys will take on the Upper Canada Cyclones, at 8pm.

Game two of the series is set for Saturday in Kemptville (8:30pm start), followed by game three in Alexandria on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 1pm. If needed, a fourth contest will be played next Tuesday in Cardinal.

The squad includes a heavy contingent of county players, not the least of which are goaltenders Nicholas Heinzle and Joe Vrbetic.
