High school basketball schedule juggled due to snow days, bus cancellations

sean Feb 6, 2019 - 12:02pm

With school bus cancellations on Monday and Tuesday, convenors of SD&G high school sports have had to re-jig some schedules, including boys basketball.

Today, Feb. 6, St. Joseph's (Cornwall) is scheduled to host a tri-meet that includes senior and junior teams from Holy Trinity and St. Lawrence.

There's also a tri-meet in Williamstown, featuring Char-Lan, CCVS, and la Citadelle senior and junior squads. This event had originally been scheduled for yesterday.

Tomorrow, Feb. 7, a tri-meet is booked for Winchester, where North Dundas, Glengarry, and Seaway senior and junior teams will see action. With poor weather forecast, convenors have a contingency. Should school buses be cancelled, this tournament will be moved to Feb. 11.

On Friday, Feb. 8, Char-Lan will host St. Lawrence in junior and senior matches, set to begin at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.

'AA' playoffs are slated for Monday, Feb. 11. We will post details to our website once confirmed.

Tuesday, Feb. 12 will see a tri-meet take place at St. Lawrence, with the Saints taking on Tagwi and l'Heritage. This is a tournament that was originally booked for Feb. 4.

The 'A' playoffs will take place on Thursday, Feb. 14.

Boys high school hockey: Char-Lan skates to win & tie, Holy Trinity offence shut down

sean Jan 9, 2019 - 4:57pm

The boys hockey team from Char-Lan DHS struggled offensively in its game today versus North Dundas, unable to capitalize on its many chances, as the teams skated to a 1-1 tie. Earlier, the Crusaders pounded Tagwi 10-0.

Holy Trinity, meanwhile, failed to score a goal on the day, blanked 5-0 by Seaway and 4-0 by la Citadelle, though it wasn't for wont of trying.

Tagwi's other result was a much closer affair, a 3-2 loss to la Citadelle.

We will have a full report in the Jan. 16 edition of The Glengarry News.

Char-Lan was humbled 10-4 by la Citadelle and lost a close 3-2 contest with North Dundas. St. Joseph's blanked the Devils 3-0.

All the details will be in the Jan. 16 issue of The Glengarry News.

Holy Trinity donates funds raised from Sisters' Cup to Baldwin House

sean Dec 21, 2018 - 11:14am

Holy Trinity raised $1,250 for Baldwin House, and along with Catholic partner St. Joseph's, recently donated $2,500 to the facility that assists "women and their children in the transition from violent and abusive circumstances to a safe and secure environment and a renewed family by providing safe shelter and services, and encouraging them to realize their full human potential."

The funds were collected from the recent Sisters' Cup hockey game, played Dec. 10 in Cornwall.

The Falcons express thanks to all those in the community who supported the event and helped us raise funds and/or food donations.
