Green Valley native Remi Elie, who is playing this season for the Buffalo Sabres, recently marked his 100th career NHL game. Originally drafted by the Dallas Stars in 2013, he skated in 90 games with the Stars over the last two seasons, before being picked up by the Sabres this year. A nagging knee injury has limited his playing time to 10 games so far in 2018-19.
A 25-year-old man from Nova Scotia has been charged with the murder of Emilie Maheu, the 26-year-old Green Valley woman whose body was found last Saturday in a field east of Lancaster.
Brandon Smeltzer, of Bayside, Nova Scotia was located in New Brunswick and charged with first-degree murder.
The accused will be transported back to Ontario where he is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall.
The community has been shocked by the death of the mother of a 22-month-old girl.
She was last seen leaving work at approximately 1 p.m. October 11 and was reported missing from a residence on County Road 34 in South Glengarry at approximately 8:30 p.m. October 11.

Remi Elie, who has toiled the better part of the last two seasons in the AHL, will get his chance tonight on the big stage, scheduled to skate with the Dallas Stars on the NHL, when they compete in Miami, versus the Florida Panthers. The 21-year-old from Green Valley will have his parents, Sylvain and Rachel, in the stands cheering him on.
Game time is set for 7pm. Fans of Elie will need access to NHL Gamecentre or the NHL cable/satellite TV package in order to watch the action.

Two South Glengarry residents have been charged with weapons and drug charges after police raided a Green Valley residence, confiscating a pepper spray canister, and a quantity of methamphetamines, cocaine, MDMA, LSD and marijuana.
Simon Labre, 30, and Hope Vanderhaeghe, 23, face five counts of possession of a drug for the purpose of trafficking, as well as charges of unauthorized possession of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance and of property obtained by crime.
SDG 34 at the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) crossing in Green Valley will be closed to all traffic – from 9 a.m. on August 4 to 6 p.m. on August 6 – to facilitate the reconstruction of the track and road surfaces.
Detour route signs will be in place for motorists.
