Fire at Levac Propane extinguished

Approximately 40 firefighters from the St-Isidore, Fournier, St-Bernardin, St-Albert, Limoges and Casselman stations battled a structural fire at the processing plant at Levac Propane in St-Isidore last night.

The blaze, which started at 6 p.m., forced the closure of Ste-Catherine Street between Concession 20 and Concession 21.

The fire is now under control.

There were no injuries and no explosions.

Ste-Catherine Street is now open.

Church fire aftermath

A large crowd gathered Sunday morning to survey the remains of the Roman Catholic church in St-Isidore which was destroyed by fire Saturday. One woman brought flowers which she placed at the foot of a statue near the church that dates back to 1879. The blaze was one of several that occurred over the weekend.

SIU investigates death

The Special Investigation Unit is probing the death of a man found dead in a building near St-Isidore today, May 13.
Members of the Hawkesbury detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, with the assistance of the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit, had converged on a residence on Concession Road 8, The Nation Township, "with regards to a person in distress."
When officers entered a structure on the property, they located the lifeless man.
The SIU investigates when a person dies or is seriously injured during incidents involving police officers.

Debate Thursday

International trade will no doubt be a hot topic when a Glengarry-Prescott-Russell all-candidates debate is held Thursday, October 1 at 8 p.m. at the St-Isidore arena. The meeting is organized by area milk producers, many of whom are worried about concessions the federal government may make during current Trans-Pacific Partnership talks.
