Glengarrians are invited to join the Cornwall Wildcats teams that will compete in the Ottawa-based NCAFA league, starting next month and running into the fall.
We will have more information on the programming in an upcoming edition of The Glengarry News.
Last Saturday, the Cornwall OVFL Wildcats were scheduled to host the Brampton Bulldogs to wrap up the season, but the 'Dogs forfeited, handing the 'Cats the victory to finish with a 2-6 record for eighth spot in the 10-team league.
The Wildcats, which include county boys Cameron Howes and Rylan Duhart, scored 125 points in all, while allowing a league worst 243.
The boys did get in some final action over the weekend, playing an intra-squad game. The score was 28-21 for Team AJ. Word has it that stellar officiating was provided by Kirby Camplin, Costa Zarifi, Mitch Zapitelli, and one of the player's dad. Glengarrians Alex Zarifi, Dylan Hambleton, and Alex Labonte were among the coaches.
Howes had a strong game for the winning side, while Duhart was steady at centre for the losers.
The 2017 edition of the Cornwall Wildcats OVFL team was slated to host one more league game this season, booked for Saturday, July 15, but alas, the season actually came to an abrupt end this week, with Brampton forfeiting the contest.
Thus, there will be no game play, and the Wildcats will officially get the win to end their season at 2-7, one spot in the standings ahead of winless Brampton.
Despite scoring the opening points off a kickoff return for a touchdown, the Cornwall Wildcats OVFL team couldn't find any cohesiveness or momentum, as the visiting Toronto Thunder pummelled the 'Cats 45-7 to drop Cornwall's record to 1-6 on the season. The boys sit ninth overall in the 10-team league.
Saturday, July 15 will have the boys in action one final time, slated to host the winless Brampton Bulldogs at Joe St. Denis Field. Opening kickoff is set for 4pm.
With a Sunday loss in Hamilton, the Cornwall OVFL Wildcats now have a record of 1-5 on the season. The 26-14 decision extended the team's losing skid to three games.
The Wildcats have two games remaining, both at home, at Joe St. Denis Field. On July 8, the Toronto Thunder provide the opposition, and on July 15 it will be the Brampton Bulldogs. Both are 4pm starts.
There are several county boys on the team this year, including Cameron Howes (#33), Rylan Duhart (#67), Terry Dogbey (#21), and Simon Korteweg (#20). In addition, Glengarrians Dylan Hambleton, Alex Labonte, and Costa Zarifi are part of the coaching staff.

The annual Friday night football action at the Maxville Fair goes tonight, with the first game, featuring the Glengarry Gaels mosquito squad, kicking off at 6pm.
The second contest, involving the peewee Gaels, is booked for a 7:30pm start.
Attendees are reminded that this is a fundraiser for the food bank, part of Purolator's Tackle Hunger Program. As such, you are asked to bring a donation of non-perishable food items or make a cash contribution. Entry to the games includes access to all other areas of the fair as well.
The action goes on even if it's raining, so please dress accordingly. The grandstands will be open for spectators.
