South Lancaster Fish and Game Club gears up for new season

The South Lancaster Fish and Game Club is gearing up for the summer season. The club believes in providing opportunities for youth to gain experience in outdoor recreation while  learning the importance of conservation ethics.

On Saturday, July 4, 2015, the club's annual kids fishing derby will be held at the South Lancaster Wharf. This free of charge event is open to all youth ages 5-15. The morning includes a barbecue for all participants, and prizes. Fishing rods and worms are also supplied. Participants will have to opportunity to fish alongside NHLer Jesse Winchester, and the OPP Marine Unit will also be on hand providing short boat rides.

Last year's derby welcomed over 90 children.

Colts alumni game to drop puck on Fred Page Cup week in Cornwall

(By David Murphy)     The Fred Page Cup Eastern Canadian Championship committee is pleased to announce the first ever Cornwall Colts Alumni versus Cornwall Royals Alumni game will be played on Tuesday, April 28 at 7pm at the the Ed Lumley Arena (Cornwall Civic Complex).

The game will mark the beginning of six days of Fred Page Cup activities, including the tournament to decide who will represent Eastern Canada at the 2015 national junior 'A' championship in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.

“We’ve already received some interest from past players, from both the Colts and the Royals,” said FPC Chairman Rod McLeod.  “Both hockey clubs have a rich history and have meant a lot to Cornwall and area residents for generations.”

Teams will be formed on a first-come, first-registered basis.

Char-Lan DHS girls look for community support to get to Kenora

The March 4 edition of The Glengarry News includes a story about Char-Lan's girls hockey team winning the EOSSAA championship last week and their plans to represent the area at OFSAA in Kenora. The girls are looking to the community for support, including through an online auction on Facebook, which you can access here.
