Cornwall-based club aims to get you active

sean Feb 16, 2017 - 9:36am

The February blues are upon us, resolutions are fading, and you’re seriously concerned if you’re going to be able to accomplish all those goals you set your mind to at the stroke of midnight back on New Year’s Eve.

Or maybe, you’re still going strong but want to ensure you stay on track.

The Cornwall Multisport Club could be just the ticket for you to be able to look back on 2017 and feel a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Home to approximately 200 members, from Ironman athletes to Learn-to-Run graduates, the multisport club offers a multitude of events, training opportunities, and social activities, plus ways to connect with like-minded individuals and families. While many people might associate it only with running, numerous cycling and swimming events ensure it maintains a well-rounded approach to fitness.

“While our club is home to a number of stellar athletes who’ve participated in high-profile events like the Boston Marathon or various Ironman competitions,” says club president Rick Croney, “our primary goal is to help encourage people to become more physically active while enjoying themselves. Our mandate is to have fun, make new friends who share common interests and motivate each other.”

Club events officially kick-off with the popular Family Day Run, held this year on Feb. 20. This is a 6 km run where participants can either register individually or as a team – a perfect opportunity to enjoy the day with your family or friends while getting healthy.

Other races this year include the Victoria Day Chase, May 22; Jumble Run, July 4; Labour Day Chase, Sept. 4; Fall Trail Run, Oct. 7 and the CMC Run 5/10km, Oct. 28. There will also be the Spring Duathlon, May 6; CMC Super-Sprint Triathlon, June 11; CMC Kids’ Day, July 8; CMC Open H2O Swim, Aug. 4 and the Fall Duathlon, Sept. 16. The annual Spring Social will be held April 29, while the Winter Party takes place Nov. 18.

Additionally, members receive a monthly newsletter, access to the Facebook group, sponsor discounts, and are eligible for year-end awards. Youth are encouraged to get fit by participating in the Kids of Steel program; however, they must be accompanied by an adult during club events.

As an added incentive this year for registration, free CMC running tuques will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis for members. They are one-size fit all and are terrific for winter training, as well as those cooler spring and fall days. Members receive one tuque per individual registration or two tuques per family membership. Available only while quantities last!

“We also offer numerous training opportunities,” states Croney. “Come the end of April, Monday night duathlons will be held in St. Andrew’s West, and once the St. Lawrence River warms up, there are open water swims later on Friday afternoons. Tuesday and Thursday night runs are held from the Aquatic Centre throughout the year, and Sunday morning long runs started a few weeks ago from there, too.”

CMC registration is $45 for individuals, and $85 for a family. Online registration is available at https://raceroster.com/events/2016/7197/cornwall-multisport-club

“The Cornwall Multisport Club is an amazing group of people of all ages. They love to be active, encourage and support newcomers, and have a blast while doing it. I’d encourage anyone interested in learning more to contact us,” Croney adds.
