The 2017 regular season will end in fashion at Cornwall Motor Speedway, as the final round of the Canadian Nationals Modified Series will be run, combined with the second leg of the DIRTcar 358-Modified Series. The DIRTcar Sportsman will also be in attendance, while the Pro-Stock and Mini-Stock divisions will have a regular night to cap off the regular-season points races.
By finishing second in last Sunday's Modified feature event, Chris Raabe has already secured the 2017 track title in the premier division, Raabe scores a second title in a row, and he will enter the upcoming program with the coveted Canadian Nationals title on his mind. The driver of the 01 machine has a 37-point lead over Jordan McCreadie. He will also look to sweep the series,l having won the first two races. Another strong group of invaders will be in town for the $5,000 event. Again 125 laps are scheduled for the race that will be combined with the DIRTcar 358-Modified Series. The initial round at Granby gathered a great field of 42 competitors.
The 50-lap DIRTcar Sportsman Series feature race will be fun to watch as the track championship battle is shaping up for a great finish with Justin Lalancette holding a thin 15-point lead over Tristan Draper. Just to add to the challenge, having the DIRTcar Series in town will bring several invaders for round two of the North section of the series. Numbers in high 30s/low 40s are expected for this race.
In the Pro-Stock class, George Renaud saw his points lead melt down to 18 over CD Beauchamp, who captured his third win of the season last Sunday evening. The upcoming race will be a 25-lap event.
The championship run that will be the most exciting will certainly be the Mini-Stock feature with only a single point separating Marc Dagenais and Mike Gaucher. Both drivers have been in a heated battle in the last few weeks, and they will bring everything to the table during the 15-lap event as both drivers are looking for a first title in the division.
For this coming Sunday, pit gates will open at 2 pm with a cost of $40. General admission will open at 4 pm with a cost of $30 for adults, $15 for seniors, and $2 for kids 16 years old and under. Time trials are scheduled to start at 5:30 pm, with qualifying races to follow at 6 pm.

With just two weeks remaining in the Cornwall Motor Speedway regular season, last Sunday's race night program opened with the Sportsman class completing the final 36 laps of the August 17 feature.
In the 30-lap Modified feature, Danny Johnson took the early lead, with Gage Morin and Marc Therrien in the chase. Johnson had a strong car, surviving two cautions in the event to capture his first win of the season, as Chris Raabe made his way up to second to seal the 2017 track title in the Modified class.
Kevin Fetterly was the early leader in the Pro-Stock feature. Exciting racing in the 25-lap race saw several drivers jostle for the lead, with Dave Bissonnette in front by lap 10. Starting in seventh spot, CD Beauchamp made his way to the top as he challenged Bissonnette and took the lead on lap 16. Beauchamp led the rest of the way, as Stephane Lebrun moved into third. Beauchamp finished strong for his third victory, with Bissonnette second.
Steve Morris opened in front of the field in the 25-lap Sportsman feature, as Justin Lalancette was running in second, riding the back bumper of the leading car. David Rogers moved up from his 11th starting spot to grab the lead on lap 17 and never looked back, en route to capturing his second win of the season.
The evening started with the concluding 36 laps from the August 17 Sportsman feature. Patrick Picotin led the field early, with points leader Lalancette suffering a flat tire. On the restart, Picotin stayed in front, as Tristan Draper took second ahead of Martin Pelletier on lap 20. Picotin tried to hold off Draper but the #17 car was too strong on the top side and took the lead. Draper led the final portion to snag his third feature victory of the summer.
The Mini-Stocks race saw an accident on the first lap with the yellow flag flying. Mike Gaucher was the leader, followed by Dylan Kirkland and Francis Desjardins. Current points leader Marc Dagenais made his way up to third. Gaucher led the final laps and won his third race of the season.
Brian Billings grabbed the early lead in the Eastern Ontario Vintage Club 15-lap event. A good battle amongst the front runners ensued, as Nathan Berry and Paul Billings jostled. Berry took the lead on lap 4, with Paul Billings in second. On a restart, Paul Billings came out hard to grab first place ahead of Cory Winters and Berry. Billings led the final laps to nab the checkered flag.

Mother Nature’s bad behaviour sets the stage for a very busy end of July at the Cornwall Motor Speedway, with remake features being added to the last two events of this month. Here are the details.
This Sunday, July 23, the Pro-Stock and Mini-Stock division will be added to the beginning of an already busy evening, as the Race for the Cure Sportsmen Series will be the highlight, along with a full show and the always popular autograph night.
On July 30, the Modifieds and Sportsmen will complete their feature remake from the 16th, at the start of the night, as the DIRTcar Pro-Stock Series will be in town, along with the Quebec Mod-Lite, plus a complete show. The Mini-Stock will have the night off.
"We wanted to reschedule these feature as soon as possible without penalizing divisions that will run important series races during these weekends such as the Sportsman and Pro-Stocks," mentions the track's PR Director.
Both nights will start at 6pm, so the evening won't be too long for fans and race teams.
For this coming Sunday, the pit gates will open at 2:30pm with a cost of $30, and the general admission will open their doors at 4:30pm with a cost of $20 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $2 for kids 16 years old and under. Sportsman will have time trials at 5:30pm, with their remake feature following right after.
