Canoe race cancelled

For the first time in its 38-year history, the Raisin River Canoe Race will not be held this year, cancelled due to record low water levels in the river for this time of year.

It's over!

Last night in Ottawa, the Junior B hockey season came to an end for the Glens as the boys lost to the Junior Canadians 4-1 in game five of the championship series.

This marks the second straight year the team has been a finalist after winning the championship the two previous seasons.

Glens stave off elimination

The Glens were on the brink on home ice last night in Alexandria, trailing 3-0 in the EOJHL championship series, when they staved off elimination with a 5-4 win in double overtime.

Tonight the boys travel to Ottawa in another do-or-die battle, and should the Glens prevail, there will be a game six back in Alexandria on Monday night.

Glens with backs against the wall

With game four on home ice Friday night, the Alexandria Junior B Glens find themselves down three games to none in the EOJHL championship series against the Ottawa Junior Canadians.

Trailing is not something new for the Glens this season, as the boys also fell behind in each of the previous three playoff rounds, rebounding to win four straight games in each series.

And this time, they will also need to win four straight, since each match going forward the Glens will face elimination.

Game time Friday is 8 p.m. at the Glengarry Sports Palace.

Alexandria goes for another league championship

For the fourth straight year, the Alexandria Junior B Glens are in the EOJHL championship series, looking to make a statement in 2010 and bounce back from finishing as runners-up a season ago.

In what has been a playoff quirk this year, the Glens, for the fourth series in a row, dropped the opener, as the final series kicked off over the weekend in Ottawa against the Junior Canadians.  In each of the past three series, though, Alexandria rebounded to win four straight, though in the conference finals, the Glens did lose the first two matches before winning the next four.

In game one of the finals last Saturday, the Glens were felled 6-2.

Game two goes tonight in Alexandria at 8 p.m., with game three on Tuesday night in Ottawa, and game four back in Alexandria on Friday night.

Glens look to tie series tonight

With a 4-3 victory on the road in Athens Thursday night, the Alexandria Junior B Glens have earned the opportunity to tie the conference final series tonight as the Aeros will visit the Glengarry Sports Palace.  Game time is 8 p.m.  Athens won the first two games on scores of 3-2 in overtime and 5-1.  The Glens are the three-time defending conference champs.

Glens disappoint on home ice

Game two of the Junior B conference final series was a disappointment for local hockey fans, as the Glens failed to respond from a game one loss on the road. Alexandria dropped the second outing 5-1 and now finds itself down 2-0 in the series with game three on the road in Athens Thursday night.

Next home game will be Friday, March 26 at 8 p.m.  Wear your hockey jerseys and get into the spirit!

Junior B Glens will look to eliminate Casselman tonight

Up 3-1 in the St. Lawrence Division final series, the Alexandria Junior B Glens head to Casselman tonight looking to knock off the top-seeded Vikings and claim the division playoff title.  Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Major Midget B Rebels to play game four tonight

A disappointing loss in Long Sault last night, means the Char-Lan Major Midget B Rebels will have to play a fourth game to decided the East Division championship.

With the Rebs only needing a tie last night to move on, the Selects came out on fire, taking play to the Char-Lan boys who will need to find a way to quickly regroup when they hit the ice in Williamstown tonight for a 6 p.m. start.

The winner of tonight's match will be the East Division champion and will advance to the cross-over series against the west champ.

Bantam B Glens nab division title

On home ice last night, the Bantam B Glens rep hockey team topped Akwesasne to win the East Division playoff title.  With the victory, the Glens will now advance to the cross-over playoff series to take on the champ from the west side.

See the March 17 edition of The Glengarry News for a full wrap-up and details on the next round.

Division titles on the line tonight

Two minor hockey teams from the county are pinning their homes on results tonight as they fight for division championships.

In Alexandria, the Bantam B Glens will host Akwesasne for a 6:30 p.m. contest. Should the Glens prevail, they will win the title.  If they lose, the Wolves get it.  And if the teams tie, then there will be a fourth and deciding game to be played later in the week.

For the Char-Lan Major Midget B Rebels, a chance for the title goes tonight in  Long Sault with the Rebs leading the four-point series three points to one against the Selects.  Game time is 8 p.m.  Char-Lan needs a win or a tie to clinch the championship, but would not be eliminated by a loss.  That case would force a deciding match back in Williamstown.
