SD&G high school soccer schedule in limbo

sean Apr 30, 2019 - 10:36am

The 2019 SD&G high school soccer schedule is in limbo, due to field conditions and rainy, cold weather forecast for the rest of the week.

Play had been slated to begin May 1 on several fronts, including at Char-Lan DHS in Williamstown, where a full day of matches was booked.

The likely scenario now is that the season will be compressed, with game times shortened in order to complete league action in time for playoffs and EOSSAA.

All UCDSB fields remain closed.

Here's today's announcement from league convenor Jack Chisholm:

Hello Soccer Gang: with 30-40 mm of rain coming to the area and extremely high winds (cold) we have decided to cancel tomorrow's and Thursday's games.

A NEW schedule will be sent out THURSDAY.

The hope is that matches slated for Friday will be able to go ahead. The News will post updates when they become available.

GSL schedule resumes tonight on multiple fronts

After last night's washout, the action is set to resume on numerous fields throughout the county, notes GSL vice-president Tammy MacSweyn. She adds that fingers are crossed for some wind and heat to dry the surfaces.

Despite the heavy rain throughout the day Monday, the south field at Alexandria's Island Park looks in good shape this morning.

Tonight's slate of games includes U8 boys and U16 girls contests, all starting at 6:30 p.m.

Two hours later, the senior women take to the field on two fronts, playing on the Dunvegan and Lochiel pitches to wrapup regular-season action.

Update: no minor football games to be played this weekend

sean May 12, 2017 - 3:07pm

As we indicated might be the case in this week's edition of The Glengarry News, the Gaels youth football club has confirmed that the league's second straight weekend has been postponed due to field conditions.

According to club co-president Costa Zarifi, the tentative plan (and hope) is that league play will kick off on May 21, and the schedule will be then adjusted to give kids a "full season's worth of football."

The Glengarry Gaels have four spring league teams that play against squads based in Cornwall, so scheduling also relies on availability of fields in the Seaway City.
