Prowlers head into game three with playoff series tied 1-1

The Cornwall senior 'A' Prowlers split their first two semifinal series games with the Mont Laurier Montagnards, dropping the opener on the road 6-4, before rebounding 6-5 on home ice.

The third match is set for March 9 in Mont Laurier, with game four on Sunday, March 10, at 4 p.m., at Cornwall's multi-sport complex. The series is a best-of-five.

Of the county players on the roster, Maxville's Adam Wensink scored twice in the first two games and added an assist, while Martintown's Jesse Fontaine notched one marker. The team also includes Pierre-Luc Sabourin, a defenceman from Alexandria.

Prowlers set for senior 'A' hockey home opener

Coming off a 13-6 victory over the Cumberland Bandits last weekend, the Cornwall Prowlers senior 'A' hockey team will have its home opener on Saturday, Oct. 20, at Cornwall's multi-sport complex. Game time is set for 8 p.m, versus the Pontiac Comets, who are 0-2 on the season.

There is Glengarry county content on both sides, with Maxville's Adam Wensink suiting up for the Comets. The Prowlers have Jesse Fontaine and Pierre-Luc Sabourin.

Tickets are $8 for those 19 and over, $5 for ages 18 and under. A pre-sale of up to 100 tickets will be available at 812 Pitt St., Unit 52, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Ticket sales at the door begin at 7 p.m.

Should the crowd exceed 700, there will be a draw of fans in attendance, the winner awarded a 55-inch TV.

Looking ahead, the team's second home game will be played Friday, Nov. 2, versus the Vaudreuil Titans, at 8:30 p.m.

Wensink seeks return

One-time North Glengarry council member Johanne Wensink is seeking a return to North Glengarry as Maxville's representative.

One of eight candidates to have registered so far, Mrs. Wensink, who was elected in 1997 when the new municipality was created following amalgamation, Mrs. Wensink is hoping to succeed Carma Williams, who is seeking the deputy mayor's post.

So far, the list of hopefuls also includes mayoralty candidate and current deputy mayor Jamie MacDonald, Kenyon Councillor Jeff Manley, Lochiel Councillor Brian Caddell, Alexandria Councillor Michel Depratto, Upper Canada District School Board trustee candidate Marshall Wilson and Jonathan DeSerres, who is seeking re-election to the Conseil scolaire de district catholique de l'Est ontarien.
